The best Glock alternatives give you what made the Glock famous, a reliable, simple striker-fired pistol, and then add better triggers, better ergonomics, optics-ready slides, or modular frames. Glock may still be the 800-pound polymer gorilla, but bans, lawsuits, and years of slow evolution have shooters looking hard at what else is out there.
Some states now target Glock pistols directly. California passed a Glock ban, and our author reports similar efforts in New York, Illinois, and Connecticut. Our author teaches civilian CCW courses in California and was a Glock fanboy for years. He shot, carried, or handled most of the guns below, and our reviewers have tested every pick.
This guide skips Glock clones like the Ruger RXM and Shadow Systems, since any ban aimed at Glock-pattern guns would likely sweep them in too. We cover the RXM in the buyer’s guide for shooters outside those states. Prices are the figures our reviewers listed at the time of review.

Buyer’s Guide: How To Choose The Best Glock Alternatives In 2026
Every pick here is a polymer striker gun with a consistent trigger. The differences are in the details.
Why Look Beyond Glock
Glocks are simple to work on and reliable to a fault. But a Glock today looks a lot like one from the 1990s. Competitors now offer better factory triggers, optics cuts with metal sights, more grip adjustment, and serialized chassis you can move between frames. If you live where Glocks are restricted, see our California compliant handguns guide too.
Size: Glock 19 Or Glock 43X Class
Decide what Glock you are replacing. Duty and home defense guns like the Echelon, PDP, VP9B, P-10 F, and M&P 2.0 Compact are Glock 17 or 19 class. The P365 and Canik METE MC9 are carry guns in the Glock 43X and 48 class. The Hellcat Pro and RM1C split the difference. See our best micro-compact 9mm pistols and best home defense handguns guides.
Triggers And Ergonomics
This is where Glock alternatives shine. Our reviewers measured 4.3 pounds on the CZ P-10 F and a hair over 4.5 pounds on the M&P 2.0 Compact. Walther’s PDP trigger is one of the best in the class. HK offers 27 grip configurations on the VP9B, and the M&P ships with four palmswells.
Optics And Modularity
Every pick is optics ready or offers an optics-ready version. The Echelon, P320, and P365 use a serialized chassis that can move between grip modules and slides. Ask whether plates are included: the M&P 2.0 Compact came with seven, but HK sells VP9B plates separately. See our best pistol red dots guide.
What About The Ruger RXM?
If you live where Glock-pattern guns are legal and you want the Glock layout itself, the Ruger RXM is a clone of the Gen 3 Glock 19 with a removable serialized chassis, an optics-ready slide, and metal night sights. In our RXM vs. Glock 19 Gen 3 test, our reviewer found little difference in recoil or split times, quicker reloads with the RXM, and less slide bite.

Read our full Walther PDP Compact review here.

Anyone recognize the red dot on the HK?
I believe it was the Holosun SCS for the HK.
Thank you.
Glock isn’t going anywhere but they have definitely lost control of the ship. Today the best Glock available is the Ruger RXM. Time will tell if they choose to take control again or not.
Sorry guys, but I own the best Glock clone ever built and it is the Palmetto State Armory DAGGER, in both the full-size and the compact!
I gave the compact to my son, which is the G19 clone and I have the full-size which is the Glock 17 clone and I’ll put them up against any Glock or any other Glock clone on the planet any day, anywhere, anytime, thank you very much, and bring all the money you can carry with you cause I will take it from you in a shoot off!
“The Glock design is stale.” Well, cry me a river. I suppose J.M. Browning’s 1911 and P35 are downright moldy. I personally do not need to update my wardrobe to conform to the slightest shift in fashion. The anti-gun mentality is endemic on the Left and Least coasts. My unsolicited advice to the author? Move to America.
If ain’t broken, don’t fix it. I think this saying is quite appropriate when talking about Glock handguns.
Amen, brother.
Why the call to change something that works perfect? Think about the Q-tip. This remarkably handy item reached its present state many years ago. If you change it enough it would no longer be a Q-tip and people would be screaming about wanting the original.
How many changes to the Glock would be enough to satisfy the complainers? Would a couple more minor changes do it, or does Glock have to hide its wonderful design in yet another video game gun package.
When Glocks first came out I hated the way they looked and would not buy one. I no longer feel this way and have many of them. In fact, I would be sad if they buckled to the current trend and waved an ugly stick over their simple, efficient looks.
