Best Springfield Armory Pistols (2026): Echelon & More

in GA Guides, Handguns, Pistols

The best Springfield Armory pistols span almost every handgun style that matters today. Springfield sells a modular striker-fired duty gun, one of the first high capacity micro-compacts, double-stack 1911s, a modern Hi Power, and classic single stack 1911s from budget to custom grade. Few brands cover that much ground.

Our writers have tested most of the line. We ran an Echelon 4.0FC COA with its factory enclosed optic, put about 500 malfunction-free rounds through a Prodigy 3.5 AOS, tested a Hellcat Pro and a bobtail TRP 4.25 CC, and shot the 4 inch SA-35, the Garrison 9mm, the Ronin EMP, the Emissary 4.25, and the XD-M Elite in 10mm. For a wider look across brands, see our best 9mm pistols guide.

This is a lineup guide. We rank the Springfield pistols we have reviewed by what each one does best. You get what our writers saw at the range and what each listed for when we tested it, since Springfield updates models and prices often.

Buyer’s Guide: How To Choose The Best Springfield Armory Pistols In 2026

Springfield’s catalog splits into a few families. Start there.

Striker, 1911, Or Hi Power

The Echelon, Hellcat, and XD-M are striker fired, with consistent triggers and polymer frames. The Prodigy is a double-stack 1911, a 2011-style gun. The Garrison, Ronin, Emissary, and TRP are single stack 1911s with crisp single action triggers and thumb safeties. The SA-35 is Springfield’s take on the Browning Hi Power. Choose the action you will train with.

Carry Or Duty

For everyday carry, look at the Hellcat Pro, Ronin EMP, Prodigy 3.5, and TRP 4.25 CC. For duty, home defense, or range work, the full-size Echelon, Prodigy 4.25, and 5 inch 1911s give you more sight radius and capacity. See our best home defense handguns guide for more.

Optics

The Echelon uses Springfield’s Variable Interface System and comes in COA models with a factory enclosed-emitter optic mounted extremely low. The Prodigy uses the AOS plate system, and our Prodigy COA review covers the 4.25 inch version with a factory Aimpoint COA that ran zero malfunctions out to 100 yards. See our best pistol red dots guide.

Capacity

Double-stack guns carry far more. Our Prodigy 3.5 AOS held 18 rounds and the Echelon 17 flush or 20 extended. The Hellcat Pro holds 15+1. The SA-35 holds 15. Single stack 1911s like the Ronin EMP hold 9 in our 3 inch test gun. Decide how much you need and how much grip you can hide.

Price And Value

In our reviews, Springfield prices ran from a $653 MSRP for the XD-M Elite 10mm in 2022 to $1,582 for the Prodigy 3.5 AOS at the time of review. The SA-35 4 inch listed at $799 and the Garrison 9mm at $850 blued at the time of review. Our original Echelon 500-round review covers the standard model without the factory optic.
