Best 6.5 Creedmoor Rifles (2026): Hunting, Target and Semi-Auto Picks

in Bolt-Action, GA Guides, Rifles

The 6.5 Creedmoor started life in 2008 as a match cartridge and turned into the most popular all-around rifle round in America. It shoots flat, it bucks wind better than a .308 with less recoil, and long, high-BC bullets carry plenty of energy for deer. Our CMMG reviewer pointed out that it is still supersonic at 1,000 yards. That is why almost every rifle maker offers it, and why picking one can be hard.

The best 6.5 Creedmoor rifles of 2026 below cover a lot of price ground. A Glenfield Model A that sold for $529 at review time shot 0.78 to 0.92-inch groups with its favorite ammo and went 120 for 120 without a hiccup. A CVA Cascade XT printed a 0.35-inch group with Hornady 140-grain ELD Match. At the top end, a Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed Carbon Fiber weighs 6 pounds, 1 ounce and rang steel at 514 yards.

Every rifle here was shot on paper by a GunsAmerica Digest writer in 6.5 Creedmoor. We included one semi-auto for shooters who want fast follow-ups, plus hunting rifles with threaded barrels for suppressor owners.

If you are still deciding on a cartridge, our best bolt-action hunting rifles guide covers other chamberings. Need glass? See our best rifle scopes under $1,000.

Buyer’s Guide: How To Choose The Best 6.5 Creedmoor Rifles In 2026

The cartridge does most of the work. The rifle just has to let it. Here is what to look for.

Best 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle For Deer Hunting

For deer, a rifle between 6 and 7.5 pounds with a 20 to 22-inch barrel carries well and points fast. You do not need half-MOA accuracy to kill a deer at 300 yards, but you do need a trigger you can control and a rifle that feeds every time. A bullet built for game, like Hornady’s ELD-X or Nosler’s AccuBond, matters more than the rifle’s brand name.

Best 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle For Long Range

For steel and long shots, look for a heavier barrel, a 1:8 or faster twist for heavy bullets, an adjustable stock and a good trigger. Weight helps. A rifle that weighs 9 or 10 pounds with glass sits still, spots its own hits and lets you see your misses. Our Cascade XT reviewer found his rifle preferred 135 to 140-grain bullets, which is typical.

Threaded Barrels And Suppressors

Most 6.5 Creedmoor hunting rifles now come threaded, usually 5/8×24. A suppressor protects your hearing and cuts recoil, and with the federal tax stamp now $0 it is easier to justify. It also adds weight out front, as our Glenfield reviewer noticed when shooting offhand with a can. See our best suppressors.

Bolt Action Or Semi-Auto

Bolt guns are lighter, simpler and usually more accurate for the money. A semi-auto 6.5 Creedmoor gives you fast follow-ups for hogs and competition, but it weighs more and costs more. Our CMMG Endeavor test rifle weighed 11.3 pounds before scope and bipod. More AR-10 options are in our best AR-10 rifles guide.

Triggers, Stocks And Magazines

A good trigger matters more than most upgrades. Many budget rifles now have adjustable triggers in the 2.5 to 5 pound range. Check the magazine system too. Detachable box magazines are handy, but spare mags can be hard to find for some models, which our CVA reviewer noted.

What To Spend

You can get a sub-MOA 6.5 Creedmoor for under $600 today. Spending more buys lighter weight, better stocks and nicer finishes, not always better accuracy. For more low-cost options, see our best budget hunting rifles.

CVA Cascade XT: Best 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle Overall (2026)

CVA guarantees the Cascade XT will shoot one-inch groups at 100 yards. Our reviewer’s 6.5 Creedmoor beat that easily, shooting half-MOA groups with two of the four factory loads he tried. Hornady 140-grain ELD Match was best at 0.35 inch, and Federal’s 135-grain Hybrid Hunter came in right at 0.5 inch. Half-MOA from a hunting load is impressive from any rifle, never mind one at this price.

Fluting brings the weight down to 6 pounds, 11 ounces, which is not lightweight but is easy to carry for a precision-leaning rifle. The omnidirectional muzzle brake does a great job taming recoil, though it blows gas in every direction, including down into the dirt. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 under it if you want a can instead. The trigger adjusts from 2 to 4 pounds, and spare magazines run about $25, though they can be hard to find.

The MSRP was $799 at the time of review in 2023, and our reviewer called that very fair. For the best 6.5 Creedmoor rifle for long range on a hunting-rifle budget, this is the one we would buy.

Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed Carbon Fiber: Best Premium 6.5 Creedmoor Hunting Rifle (2026)

The X-Bolt 2 Speed Carbon Fiber is built on Browning’s redesigned X-Bolt 2 action with a carbon fiber wrapped Preferred Barrels blank, and in 6.5 Creedmoor it weighs 6 pounds, 1 ounce. Our reviewer broke the barrel in on steel out to 514 yards, then shot groups at 50 yards that ran from 0.64 to 1.10 MOA across Hornady match and hunting loads. Hornady 140-grain ELD Match was best, with tiny velocity spreads.

The Vari-Tech stock adjusts for length of pull and comb height, so it fits more like a chassis while carrying like a hunting rifle. The DLX trigger broke right at the advertised 3.5 pounds every time, the Recoil Hawg brake and 1.25-inch Inflex pad soak up what little recoil there is, and the barrel has a 1:7 twist for heavy bullets.

He wanted a factory rail at this price and added a 20 MOA Talley rail himself. He would also like AICS magazine compatibility. MSRP was $2,799.99 at the time of review in 2025. Browning fans can compare it in our best Browning rifles guide.

Savage Axis 2 Pro: Best 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle With A Threaded Barrel (2026)

Our reviewer built his own Axis 2 Pro on Savage’s factory floor, with Savage employees walking him through each station, so he knows this rifle down to the bolt. He came away impressed by how tight the bolt-to-action tolerances were for the price. The 6.5 Creedmoor version has a heavier-contour, Cerakoted 20-inch barrel threaded 5/8×24, which makes it a natural suppressor host.

The AccuTrigger adjusts from 2.5 to 6 pounds, and his was set at a crisp 3.5. Shooting three-shot groups at 100 yards with several Hornady loads, he got many sub-MOA groups, with most shots clustering near 1 MOA. The single 4-round magazine fed and locked up flawlessly, and spares run about $40.

It weighs 6.8 pounds and comes with a 0 MOA Picatinny rail. MSRP was $599 at the time of review in 2024. It is also a favorite in our best Savage rifles guide for good reason.

Glenfield Model A: Best Budget 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle (2026)

The Glenfield Model A looks every inch like a budget rifle, and then it shoots. Our reviewer’s 6.5 Creedmoor test gun printed 0.78 to 0.92-inch groups with its favorite ammo and went 120 for 120 without a malfunction. He ran it off sandbags, then offhand and off a barricade.

Under the skin, it borrows heavily from the now-discontinued original Ruger American, including Ruger’s first-generation bladed adjustable trigger with a nominal 3 to 5 pound range. His broke at 3 pounds with no creep. It has a 20-inch barrel, 4+1 capacity, a 13.75-inch length of pull and weighs 7 pounds.

He would prefer a dedicated magazine latch instead of one built into the magazine, and with a suppressor attached it gets muzzle heavy offhand. Small stuff. The price was $529 at the time of review in 2026. If you want the best budget 6.5 Creedmoor rifle that still shoots sub-MOA, start here.

Key Specs

  • Caliber: 6.5 Creedmoor

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight: Best Classic 6.5 Creedmoor For Deer Hunting (2026)

The Model 70 Featherweight is walnut, blued steel and controlled round feed in a world of carbon and plastic. Our reviewer tested it in 6.5 Creedmoor to see if the Rifleman’s Rifle still belongs in a deer stand. At 6.7 pounds without an optic, with a satin walnut stock, cut checkering and a schnabel fore-end, it handles fast and looks the part.

The Mauser-style claw extractor grabs each round from the magazine and holds it through chambering, so it feeds and extracts reliably at odd angles. The recoil lug is bedded front and rear, the bolt is jeweled and slick, and a Pachmayr Decelerator pad sits on the end. The M.O.A. trigger adjusts from 3 to 5 pounds, but his came from the factory at 5.9.

Accuracy is honest hunting-rifle accuracy. Groups averaged a little over 1.5 to 2.2 MOA across all ammo, and the best three-shot groups at 100 yards measured 0.84 inch with both Nosler Trophy Hunter 140-grain AccuBond and SIG Elite. That will kill any deer you can see. Buy this one because you want a rifle you will hand down.

Key Specs

  • Caliber: 6.5 Creedmoor (as tested)
  • Action: Mauser-style controlled round feed
  • Stock: satin walnut, cut checkering, schnabel fore-end
  • Weight: 6.7 lb without optic
  • Trigger: M.O.A. adjustable 3 to 5 lb (5.9 lb from factory)
  • Accuracy: 0.84 in best 3-shot group at 100 yards

Pros

  • Controlled round feed
  • Classic walnut and blued steel
  • Light and quick handling
  • 0.84-inch best groups

Cons

  • Averaged 1.5 to 2.2 MOA
  • Trigger came heavy from the factory

CMMG Endeavor 300 Mk3: Best Semi-Auto 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle (2026)

If you want a 6.5 Creedmoor that runs as fast as you can pull the trigger, this is our pick. The Endeavor 300 Mk3 is an AR-10 style rifle on billet 7075 aluminum receivers with a rifle-length direct-impingement gas system, a 24-inch 416 stainless heavy taper barrel and CMMG’s SV brake on 5/8-24 threads. Our reviewer shot it at 300 and 500 yards with SIG Elite Hunter ammo, and his best 500-yard group came in light rain and wind, after he over-corrected for the wind. His rifle really liked that load. It weighed 11.3 pounds before scope and bipod, which is heavy, but that weight makes the 6.5 Creedmoor feel like a .223.

The bolt carrier and key are chrome lined, there is no forward assist, and CMMG backs its rifles with a lifetime warranty. The Endeavor 300 was $2,349.95 at the time of review in 2020, with the Endeavor 200 and 100 at $1,849.95 and $1,749.95. The Endeavor Mk3 in 6.5 Creedmoor is still available today.

Key Specs

  • Caliber: 6.5 Creedmoor

  • Stock: Magpul PRS
  • Weight: 11.3 lb without scope or bipod
  • Price: $2,349.95 (Endeavor 300, 2020 review)

Pros

  • Fast follow-up shots
  • Geissele trigger standard
  • Heavy barrel for long range
  • Lifetime warranty

  • 11.3 pounds before glass

Thompson/Center Compass: Best 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle Under $500 (2026)

When our reviewer saw a 1 MOA three-shot guarantee on a $400 rifle, he thought about how 1 MOA used to be the holy grail of custom guns. Then the Compass delivered sub-MOA accuracy at 100 yards in 6.5 Creedmoor, as advertised.

Read our full Thompson/Center Compass review here.

It is a simple rifle with a three-lug bolt and a 60-degree bolt lift that gives plenty of scope clearance, a three-position safety and a threaded 22-inch barrel with a thread protector. It weighs 7.25 pounds, holds 5+1 and the adjustable trigger measured 5 pounds, 10 ounces. The bolt is not the smoothest, and the polymer stock will not put McMillan out of business, but it is light and works.

MSRP was $399 at the time of review in 2017. Thompson/Center has since replaced it with the Compass II, so look for the newer model. For the best 6.5 Creedmoor rifle under $500 with a written accuracy guarantee, it is still a good choice.

Key Specs

  • Caliber: 6.5 Creedmoor
  • Capacity: 5+1
  • Barrel: 22 in, threaded with protector
  • Weight: 7.25 lb
  • Trigger: adjustable, 5 lb 10 oz (tested)
  • Accuracy: 1 MOA three-shot guarantee
  • Price: $399 MSRP (2017 review)
  • Current version: Compass II

Pros

  • Sub-MOA at 100 yards
  • 1 MOA guarantee
  • Threaded barrel
  • Very affordable

Cons

  • Replaced by the Compass II
  • Bolt is not the smoothest

Final Thoughts On The Best 6.5 Creedmoor Rifles Of 2026

The CVA Cascade XT is the best 6.5 Creedmoor rifle for most shooters. It shot a 0.35-inch group, ran half-MOA with a hunting load and cost $799 when we tested it. If weight is your enemy, the Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed Carbon Fiber is just over 6 pounds and shoots well, though you pay for it.

On a budget, the Glenfield Model A and the Savage Axis 2 Pro both shoot well above their price, and the Axis comes threaded and ready for a suppressor. The Winchester Model 70 Featherweight is the classic deer rifle, the CMMG Endeavor Mk3 is the semi-auto choice, and the Thompson/Center Compass line still offers a guarantee for very little money.

Whatever you buy, find the load your rifle likes and practice from field positions. If you are replacing an older deer rifle, see what your gun is worth. Shop 6.5 Creedmoor rifles on GunsAmerica.com.
