Springfield Armory is giving three Model 2020 Waypoint bolt guns a new stock treatment built for hunters who want a little more traction when conditions get wet, cold, or plain miserable.

The new rifles pair the Waypoint’s carbon-fiber AG Composites stock with an SG-100 Cerakote finish. Cerakote calls the coating “Super-Grip,” and Springfield says it adds a tactile, rubberized texture to the bead-blasted carbon-fiber stock.

It is a practical change, not a flashy one. The finish keeps the rifle’s look subdued while aiming to give shooters a more secure hold in the field.

The new SG-100 Waypoint lineup includes a short-action .308 Win. model, plus long-action versions in 7mm PRC and .300 Win. Mag. All three wear black H-164 Cerakote on the stainless-steel action and fluted 416 stainless barrel, creating a clean black-on-black setup from stock to muzzle.

Each rifle also comes with Springfield’s SA Radial Brake on a threaded muzzle.

Under the new coating, this is still very much a Model 2020 Waypoint. The action is machined from pre-hardened stainless steel and features an integral recoil lug, EDM-cut raceways, and a fluted bolt that can be disassembled without tools. The bolt also uses dual cocking cams.

Springfield backs the rifle with its .75 MOA accuracy guarantee for three shots with match-grade ammunition and a skilled shooter. The .308 Win. version has a 20-inch barrel, while the 7mm PRC and .300 Win. Mag. models wear 24-inch barrels.

“The Model 2020’s combination of custom-grade features at production rifle pricing has established it as a premier bolt-action hunting rifle,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s vice president of marketing. “Building on this tradition are these newest variants, featuring a subdued black finish on the metal paired with the enhanced grip of the SG-100 coating on the stock.”

All three new rifles carry an MSRP of $1,995:

  • Model 2020 Waypoint .308 Win. w/SG-100, SKU BAW920308M
  • Model 2020 Waypoint 7mm PRC w/SG-100, SKU BAW9247PRCM
  • Model 2020 Waypoint .300 Win. Mag. w/SG-100, SKU BAW924300WMM

The Waypoint has always been aimed at hunters who want a lightweight, precision-minded bolt gun without stepping into full custom-rifle pricing. This update does not reinvent it. It simply adds a more field-friendly contact point where it matters most: the stock in your hands.
