Meet the GForce Two Shotgun Built for Birds

It happens all the time. You have a friend or family member wanting to go duck hunting with you, or you’re new to the sport yourself, and suddenly you need a reliable, reasonably priced 12-gauge shotgun. Of course, the shotgun in question must be capable of withstanding serious abuse, because waterfowl hunting tends to get messy. Where’s the affordable yet tough sweet spot? It’s the GForce Two, the latest 12-gauge shotgun made by GForce Arms.

GForce Two Details and Features That Matter

This gun was designed for hunting, as the details and features of the GForce Two show. It’s an inertia-driven shotgun, meaning the gun utilizes its inertia to cycle rounds rather than using the expanding gases created by live fire. Being inertia-driven gives the gun a simpler action, often considered more reliable and less prone to breakage or failure. According to GForce Arms, the GForce Two is made for smooth operation and consistent cycling, which is exactly what you want in a hard-use bird gun.

Barrel, Chokes, and Fit

This shotgun has a 28.0-inch barrel, so you get great ballistics and a nice length for duck hunting. Its overall length is 49.5 inches, and its empty weight is 6 pounds, 6 ounces. That’s a lightweight platform for duck hunting. It comes standard with a brass mid-bead and an HIVIZ front sight. Thanks to its 3.0-inch chamber, it’s compatible with both 2.75-inch and 3.0-inch shotshells, and it has a 3 round capacity. It also ships with a variety of chokes: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. And if the length of pull isn’t quite right, there’s a stock shim kit right in the box. It’s also compatible with Benelli Cryo-style chokes.

There are plenty of useful features on this shotgun. A ventilated rib helps reduce glare and cool the barrel. Controls are easy to operate, and the stock design delivers a solid cheek weld. A burnt bronze finish blends into duck season terrain or upland country. GForce Arms states the shotgun comes with a no B.S. lifetime guarantee.

Field Performance: Shoulders Fast and Cycles Clean

Something that matters quite a bit when you’re bird hunting is how well the shotgun shoulders and swings on target. It’s important to remember that we all have different body types, arm lengths, and skill sets. Broadly speaking, the GForce Two is a good fit. It shoulders comfortably, tucking securely into my shoulder, and it swings on target smoothly. And because it’s a lighter-weight model, it’s not cumbersome or otherwise uncomfortable to use at length.

The forend is plastic with a molded, curving shape to better fit the shooter’s hands. It’s well textured to improve grip if the gun gets wet, which is a definite possibility when you’re duck hunting. Yes, this is a semi auto, so you don’t need to worry about pumping the shotgun, but you still want a secure gripping surface. The factory trigger has a crisp, clean break, better than some shotguns, and the length of pull is good. If you want to change it, the included shim kit makes that easy.

This isn’t a heavily padded gun, and it’s also lightweight, meaning you feel more of that 12-gauge recoil than you might in other shotguns. It’s not punishing, but it’s significant enough that you’ll be aware of it, especially if you’re comparing it with models that have more recoil mitigation built in. Even so, I’ve had no problem running the gun at length.

Ammo Tested and Reliability Notes

I’ve run quite a bit of ammo through the GForce Two, and it hasn’t had any cycling issues. So far, that’s included Federal Top Gun 12 gauge 2.75 inch #8 shot 1 1/8 ounce, Federal Speed Shok 12 gauge 3.0 inch #3 shot 1 ¼ ounce, Remington Hypersonic Steel 12 gauge 3.0 inch #4 shot 1 ¼ ounce, and Herter’s Dove and Quail 12 gauge 2.75 inch #7.5 shot 1 ounce.

Receiver Design: Two Piece and Iron Sights Only

There are some things you need to know about the GForce Two. First, it isn’t drilled and tapped or otherwise capable of being used with a red dot. Due to the receiver design, this is strictly an iron sights shotgun.

GForce Arms designed this shotgun with a two-piece receiver. That’s far different than the GForce One’s solid receiver or the standard solid receiver you find on the majority of shotguns. The GForce Two’s receiver comes off when you disassemble the gun. It slides off when you loosen the mag tube cap and remove the forend. According to the company, this feature is included to make maintaining the shotgun easier. After all, shotguns used for waterfowl hunting tend to need a fair amount of maintenance, and that means spending time getting in all the nooks and crannies. With a removable receiver, the bolt and other parts can be quickly and easily cleaned without a struggle. Thus far, this feature hasn’t caused any issues during use, nor do I expect it will.

Why It Works as a Mid-Range Waterfowl Option

This shotgun is a great mid-range option for use as a spare waterfowl shotgun or for a first timer looking to get into bird hunting. You’re not likely to want to leap into the high-end shotguns right off, but you also don’t want the lower-end models, and the GForce Two is right in the middle. It’s reliable, easy to operate, simple to clean, and good-looking with its burnt bronze finish. Why not check it out? You won’t be disappointed.
