America’s 250th birthday has inspired a wave of commemorative firearms, and Chiappa USA is the latest manufacturer to join the celebration.
The company has announced the new 1911 Field Special 250th Independence Edition, a limited-production pistol honoring the nation’s semiquincentennial. And if exclusivity is your thing, you’ll want to move quickly. Only 250 will be produced.
Available exclusively through Chattanooga Shooting Supply, the pistol starts with Chiappa’s full-size 1911 Field platform before adding a healthy dose of patriotic flair.
The biggest eye-catcher is the Blue Navy Cerakote finish, accented with an intricate laser-etched commemorative design celebrating America’s 250 years of independence. It’s a clean look that dresses up the classic Government-size 1911 without going over the top.
Underneath the special finish, it’s still the all-steel .45 ACP 1911 that fans know and love.
The pistol features a traditional single-action trigger, a five-inch barrel, an 8+1 capacity, grey and black G10 grips, slot-mounted iron sights, and a left-side thumb safety. It ships with one magazine inside a molded hard case.

“We wanted to commemorate it with a firearm that honors both American heritage and one of the most iconic handgun designs ever created,” said Oscar Chiappa, Marketing Manager for Chiappa USA.
While many anniversary guns focus purely on looks, Chiappa kept the package practical. At roughly 2.5 pounds, the pistol maintains the familiar balance and handling characteristics that have made the 1911 a favorite for more than a century.
Like the rest of Chiappa’s firearms, the pistol is manufactured in Italy before making its way to American collectors.
With only 250 examples planned the 1911 Field Special 250th Independence Edition is likely to appeal as much to collectors as shooters.

Who is making a 250 American Long Rifle? Maybe a pistol in matching caliber? Something from the Pennsylvania types? A 1911 is great, but more for the World War to GWOT eras.
The grips are horrid on what is supposed to be a traditional 1911 as well as the rubber extension on the magazine and what appears to be a junk plasticky trigger.
Tell US the 1911 models worthy to be owned by an anti-2A gun connoisseur, such as yourself?
OK, here’s my initial take on this “limited” 1911 since old blunderbuss dacian has suddenly gone silent.
The G-10 panels have proven a good functioning choice for a range pistol where moisture can be a factor. I like G-10 panels on a few of my Ruger MK III-IV’s but NOT on a Standard or MK I-II. Never considered the panels “horrid” and most of my 1911’s get an upgrade anyhow from factory to high-quality wood. Pretty sure the fine folks at Hogue, Wilson, Altamont et cetera would disagree with the sweeping statement on the G-10 panels by the opinionated long winded dacian and the purchase would be what the manufacturer intended.
Since the price is NOT currently available and the gun is a limited edition there is little else to base an opinion. Of course, I do NOT know ” what appears to be a junk plasticky trigger” even means. I do NOT see this as “traditional” 1911 given the finish and as more a hybrid. Not for me, but that opinion is based on criteria different that dacian.
