When you first receive the MatchMaster Precision Case Trimmer, know that you’ll have some minor assembly to do. However, the instructions that are provided are very simple and easy to follow. This makes the task very simple, taking less than 10 minutes for me to complete.
The MatchMaster Micrometer Makes Repeatable Case Trimming Simple
The standout feature on the MatchMaster sits directly beneath the cutter head. RCBS incorporated a built-in micrometer stop that allows users to precisely adjust trim length and return to that exact setting whenever needed.
That may sound simple, but anyone who loads match ammunition understands the value of repeatability. Once you establish the desired trim length, the MatchMaster consistently returns cases to that dimension without guesswork. For reloaders who process brass in multiple sessions, the ability to return to a known setting can save significant setup time while maintaining consistency from batch to batch.
One Pass Trims, Chamfers, and Deburrs Your Brass
The biggest advantage of the MatchMaster Precision Case Trimmer may be its workflow. Traditional case preparation often requires separate trimming, chamfering, and deburring operations. The MatchMaster ships ready to handle a wide range of cartridges. The included pilots cover most common cartridges from .22 caliber through .30 caliber, while .338 caliber support is available through a separately purchased pilot. Additional or replacement pilots cost $9.99 and can be bought through RCBS or a number of reputable reloading stores.
Rather than requiring dedicated cutter heads for every cartridge, the system uses interchangeable pilots and adjustable blades. Reloaders can swap pilots and adjust the cutter to match different neck diameters while continuing to use the same cutter head.
This doesn’t mean you can’t swap the cutter head. For shooters loading multiple cartridges, RCBS offers additional cutter heads. These 3-way cutter heads can be purchased for $79.99 in the same manner as the pilots I just mentioned. Many reloaders will likely dedicate individual cutter heads to specific calibers to speed up caliber changes and eliminate repeated setup.
The MatchMaster Fits Naturally Into a Reloading Bench
RCBS designed the MatchMaster to fit naturally into existing reloading setups.
The unit mounts directly to RCBS accessory base plates, but users can also bolt it to a traditional reloading bench using standard hardware. RCBS includes a brass collection bin as well, helping keep workspaces cleaner during extended trimming sessions.
The machine currently ships with a 120-volt motor for U.S. and Canadian markets, while a 240-volt version is available for international customers.

523 Cases Later: Torture Testing the RCBS MatchMaster
Now, I’ve been using the MatchMaster Precision Case Trimmer for a better portion of this year. During this time, I’ve been using it to trim, chamfer, and deburr hundreds of 375 Raptor cartridges.
Immediately, you should know that .375 caliber is not supported by this machine. I’ve been forming 375 Raptor from 6.8x51mm SIG, a hybrid cartridge. To do this, I first step the case up to .308 caliber, then .338. At this point, I am at the largest caliber that the MatchMaster Precision Case Trimmer is currently capable of trimming.
At .338 caliber, I use the MatchMaster to trim, chamfer, and deburr the cartridge, removing 0.150″ from the case length. All I have to do to produce a finished product at this point is neck the cartridge up to .375 caliber during the final forming step.
I have done this with 523 cartridges. This means that I have trimmed 78.5″ of brass with the MatchMaster Precision Case Trimmer! This is over six and a half feet of brass trimmed in a short timeframe, on the same cutter head. The blades are still sharp and have not needed to be readjusted.
By the end of this process, I can attest that this machine is capable of the aforementioned feat, but it is designed for a more delicate and precise process. The motor for this trimmer is built for high RPM, rather than torque. This produces a smoother, more consistent trim, chamfer, and deburr, but makes trimming bulk length off of a cartridge a slower, more delicate process. I noticed if I used too heavy of a hand, I could stall the motor. I had to use a really heavy hand to achieve this, though. Still, when you use a tool in a way it wasn’t intended, this sort of result is expected.
Is the RCBS MatchMaster Worth $699.99?
The MatchMaster Precision Case Trimmer carries the MSRP of $699.99, which places it firmly in the premium category.
That price will immediately eliminate many casual reloaders from consideration. However, the MatchMaster was never intended for the shooter who trims a handful of cases a few times each year, and that is ok. This is a premium machine that produces a premium result.
This machine targets serious reloaders who value efficiency, consistency, and time savings. Efficiency and time are incredibly valuable when a reloader processes hundreds of brass per session. When viewed as a tool that replaces multiple case-preparation steps and significantly reduces processing time, the price becomes easier to justify.
