What You Get with the Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 A.I. BE.S.T.
The Super Black Eagle 3 A.I. BE.S.T. comes well-equipped from the factory. You get a set of extended A.I. Crio chokes (C, IC, M, IM, F), a red-bar front sight, and some tools and stickers. It also comes with a nice hard plastic carrying case. The shotgun breaks down into a relatively small package, which makes transporting it out to your hunting location a breeze.
Additionally, the shotgun ships drilled and tapped, giving you flexibility for optics if needed. These threaded holes come with plastic inserts to protect the threads, but they are great anchor points for mounting red dots such as the Vortex Viper Enclosed Shotgun sight.
Fit and finish immediately stand out. The receiver has smooth contours and clean engraving that proudly displays the “BE.S.T.” designation. Moreover, the matte gray BE.S.T. coating gives the shotgun a premium, purpose-built look while adding serious corrosion resistance.
Benelli SBE3 Handling: Balanced, Fast, and Glove-Friendly
Right away, the SBE3 feels balanced in the hands. It is not front-heavy, which makes a big difference when trying to shoot flying objects. Instead, the balance point sits neutral, allowing for quick target acquisition and smooth transitions between birds.
The oversized controls are a highlight. The bolt catch is easy to hit under pressure, even with gloves. Likewise, the loading port is well-designed. I never experienced any finger pinch while loading, which is something I always pay attention to on semi-auto shotguns.
The bronze feed ramp not only looks great but also functions flawlessly. In addition, the bright red shell follower gives a clear visual indicator when the magazine is empty. That is a small feature, but it is genuinely useful in the field.
Recoil Control: ComforTech 3 Helps, 3.5-Inch Shells Still Mean Business
Benelli’s ComforTech 3 system does a solid job managing recoil. Even with heavier loads, the shotgun remains controllable. However, there is still some punch when stepping up to 3.5” shells.
For example, 3.5” Winchester Xpert loads definitely let you know they are there. The recoil pad keeps your shoulder in good shape, but there is still a bit of snap and almost a hint of whiplash. However, the butt pad does the trick as my shoulder is not taking a beating.
The cheek comb does its job well. It reduces vibration and keeps things comfortable, even during longer shooting strings. Overall, the recoil impulse is manageable and predictable. The cheek comb also remains at a more comfortable temperature when shooting in extreme temperatures. While hard plastic or wood can get quite chilly or hot, this comb remains comfortable.
Red Fiber Optic Sight, Nice Touch. Carbon Rib, Slight Question Mark.
I am a big fan of the red fiber optic front sight. It is easy to pick up and works well in varying light conditions. However, the carbon rib gives me some hesitation. While it looks great, it does have a bit of play. It also feels somewhat fragile. I did not have any issues during testing, but I would be cautious about being too rough with it.
Advanced Impact Patterning: Tight 20-Yard Results with Full Choke
Benelli’s Advanced Impact system is one of the biggest upgrades on this platform. And based on my testing, it delivers. At 20 yards, using a 3.5” #2 shot shell and a full choke, I saw roughly 70% of pellets land inside an 8.5” circle (about 40 MOA). That is a dense, effective pattern. More importantly, it translates to better lethality in-game.

Range Performance: Flawless Cycling from Target Loads to Slugs
This shotgun runs. The Inertia Driven system continues to prove why it has such a strong reputation. Throughout testing, everything cycled cleanly. Herter’s and Blind Side 2 bird loads both ran great. They hit harder on the shoulder than lighter target loads, but the function was flawless. Additionally, Hornady Whitetail 1 oz slugs cycled without issue and felt surprisingly soft shooting.
The action itself is smooth. The last round consistently locked the bolt open, which is exactly what you want. Furthermore, the trigger reset is impressively short. It puts your finger right back on the wall, ready for the next shot. Trigger pull measured right at 4.5 pounds. There is a bit of mush, but the break is consistent. For a shotgun, I find it more than acceptable.
Throughout all the boxes of ammunition I ran, from 2&3/4” target rounds, to 3&1/2” bird rounds, nothing ever jammed. I never had a single malfunction, and this shotgun powered through everything I threw at it.
In the Blind: How the SBE3 A.I. BE.S.T. Carries in Real Hunting Conditions
I was able to take the SBE3 A.I. BE.S.T. out hunting. Unfortunately, a warm winter meant slow bird activity. We did not get many opportunities for ducks or geese. However, the front blends in well with a variety of climates.
That said, the shotgun handled exactly how I expected in a hunting environment. It shoulders quickly, swings naturally, and feels at home in the blind. Additionally, the camo pattern blends in well and looks great in natural surroundings.
