Springfield Armory just added its smallest model yet to the double-stack Prodigy family.
The new 1911 DS Prodigy 3.5” AOS combines a compact slide and barrel with a full-length grip. That combination gives shooters a more concealable package without cutting capacity.
The standard model ships with two 18-round magazines, giving it an 18+1 capacity. Springfield will also offer a 10-round version for restricted states.

Compact Slide, Full-Size Capacity
At the heart of the new Prodigy is a forged 3.5-inch stainless steel bull barrel. Springfield finishes the barrel with a black diamond-like carbon coating for added wear and corrosion resistance.
The forged carbon steel slide wears a matching black Cerakote finish. Springfield also recontoured the hammer and shortened the beavertail grip safety to work with the pistol’s reduced dimensions.
Despite the shorter top end, Springfield retained the Prodigy’s full-length polymer grip module. It uses the company’s Adaptive Grip Texture, which combines pointed and flat-topped pyramids.
Springfield says the texture provides a secure hold without grabbing clothing or becoming overly abrasive during concealed carry.
The grip attaches to a billet 7075-T6 aluminum frame. The frame receives hardcoat anodizing and black Cerakote, along with a section of Picatinny rail for lights and other accessories.
An ambidextrous manual safety comes standard.
Optics-Ready From the Factory
Like the other pistols in the Prodigy lineup, the 3.5-inch model uses Springfield’s Agency Optic System.
AOS plates incorporate the rear sight directly into the plate, allowing shooters to retain iron sights when adding an optic.
Each pistol includes an AOS cover plate and a plate supporting the Docter/Noblex footprint. Buyers also receive a coupon to purchase another AOS plate of their choice for $49.

“The 1911 DS Prodigy offers a modern take on the classic 1911 design through its double-column magazine and slim, polymer grip module,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s vice president of marketing.
Kramer said the compact variant should work equally well in an everyday-carry holster or at the range.
Models and Pricing
The standard 18-round Prodigy carries model number PH9114AOS. The 10-round version is listed as PH9114AOSLC.
Both pistols have an MSRP of $1,582.
With its 3.5-inch barrel, optics-ready slide and 18+1 capacity, the new Prodigy brings Springfield’s double-stack 1911 platform into a smaller, carry-focused package.
