SIG just put the P211 on a serious diet. The new P211 Full Size and P211 Carry keep the double-stack capacity, single-action trigger and optic-ready architecture while trading the heavier configuration for an aluminum alloy frame and polymer grip module.
SIG P211 Full Size and Carry Shed the GTO Weight
SIG Sauer expanded the P211 lineup at SIG NEXT 2026 with two lighter versions of its double-stack 1911-style pistol: the P211 Full Size and P211 Carry.
The basic formula is straightforward. SIG retained the P211 operating system, single-action trigger, ambidextrous controls, optic-ready slide and double-stack magazine capacity, but replaced the heavier all-metal configuration of the P211 GTO with an aluminum alloy frame and polymer grip module.
The result is a substantially lighter SIG P211 aimed less at competition and more at practical carry and general-purpose use.

SIG P211 Full Size: 5-Inch Performance Without GTO Weight
The SIG P211 Full Size is a 9mm single-action-only pistol with a 5-inch carbon-steel bull barrel and stainless-steel slide. Overall length is 8.5 inches, width is 1.48 inches and height is 5.4 inches. Weight is 35.5 ounces with a magazine.
That weight reduction is significant compared with the heavier P211 configurations built around alloy grips. The new pistol instead combines an alloy frame with a polymer grip module while retaining the full-length slide and barrel.
The P211 Full Size uses a flat skeletonized single-action trigger and skeletonized hammer. It also retains a grip safety and bilateral manual thumb safeties, giving it a control layout familiar to shooters coming from traditional 1911 and 2011-style pistols.
SIG equips the pistol with a removable steel low-profile magwell rather than the much larger competition-style magwell found on some race-oriented double-stack 1911s. The smaller design still helps guide magazines into the grip but makes considerably more sense on a pistol intended to be carried.
SIG-LOC PRO Keeps the P211 Full Size Optic-Ready
The stainless-steel slide is cut for SIG’s SIG-LOC PRO optic mounting system. SIG lists the Full Size with a 6.5-inch sight radius and XRAY3 day/night front sight paired with a blackout fixed rear sight.
The slide also incorporates aggressive front and rear serrations and substantial machining around the nose. A 1913 Picatinny rail on the frame provides mounting space for a weapon light or other accessory.
Standard Full Size pistols ship with one 17-round and two 21-round steel magazines.

The SIG P211 Carry uses the same basic architecture but shortens the front of the pistol around a 4.2-inch carbon-steel bull barrel.
Overall length drops to 7.6 inches while width remains 1.48 inches and height remains 5.4 inches. SIG lists the Carry at 33.1 ounces with a magazine, 2.4 ounces lighter than the Full Size.
The Carry retains the alloy frame, polymer grip, flat skeletonized SAO trigger, ambidextrous thumb safeties, grip safety, 1913 rail and SIG-LOC PRO optic-ready slide. Its sight radius is reduced to 5.8 inches. Standard magazine configuration remains one 17-round and two 21-round steel magazines.

First Shots: What the Lighter SIG P211 Feels Like
I shot the new P211 at SIG NEXT alongside the heavier P211 GTO.
The difference is noticeable. The aluminum-frame, polymer-grip P211 does not have the same soft recoil impulse as the heavier GTO, and it lacks the GTO’s compensator. That is the tradeoff for dropping enough weight to make the platform considerably more realistic as a carry pistol.
The trigger and controls still feel like the P211 platform, and the pistols I fired ran without any malfunctions. I also did not personally see one malfunction during the SIG NEXT range session.
A Promising First Run, But This Was Not Independent Testing
That testing comes with an important qualification. We were shooting SIG-provided pistols with SIG-provided ammunition at a manufacturer-hosted event. It was not independent testing.
We will get a production P211 away from SIG, run our own ammunition through it and do a full GunsAmerica review. For now, the P211 Full Size and P211 Carry appear to address one of the biggest limitations of the original P211 GTO: weight.
SIG P211 Full Size and Carry: Early Pros & Cons
- Pros: Substantially lighter than the heavier P211 configurations, 17-round and 21-round steel magazines, SIG-LOC PRO optic-ready slides, ambidextrous controls, bull barrels and a more carry-focused configuration.
- Cons: The lighter configuration does not have the same soft recoil impulse as the heavier GTO, and these first impressions came from SIG-provided pistols and ammunition at a manufacturer-hosted event rather than independent testing.
