Last month in Spokane, Washington, a man walking his dog became the unlikeliest hero when a knife-wielding attacker turned a quiet apartment complex into a crime scene.
According to Spokane Police, the chaos began when the suspect—armed with a knife—attacked a woman outside the Hart Terrace Apartments. A nearby tenant pulled her into an apartment to safety. She wasn’t hurt.
But the attacker wasn’t finished.
Moments later, he stabbed and killed another man near the stairwell.
Then he moved again—this time toward a man walking his dog.

That man didn’t run. He drew his firearm and stopped the threat with a single, fatal shot. Police say the shooting was clearly self-defense.
No arrest was made.
And no apology was needed.
In an interview with KREM 2 News, Spokane PD Lieutenant Jay Kernkamp confirmed officers are still investigating the wider scene, but the facts so far are clear: a good guy with a gun saved lives.
