Ted Nugent Brings Gun Into Michigan Capitol…

in News

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Two weeks ago, rock star and hunting activist Ted Nugent walked into the Michigan State Capitol with a gun. Now, officials say they’re tightening security to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Michigan State Police confirmed Nugent brought a firearm into the Lansing building. Capitol Commission Chair William Kandler called the incident rare but “inexcusable.”

“We’re in this period of extreme political violence,” Kandler said in an interview with WWMT-TV. “We have to look at things a little differently.”

The issue? Nugent entered through the northern entrance, which only had one trooper on duty. Other entrances have two.

Due to staffing shortages, the northern entrance was left with minimal security. Officials now plan to add a second trooper at that door.

“It took several months to even get to this point where there are enough people to cover all the doors all the time,” Kandler explained.

State police said Nugent complied when informed of the Capitol’s weapons policy and surrendered his firearm. It’s unclear if he has since retrieved it, but Kandler noted the Capitol doesn’t keep firearms long-term.

MSP said in a statement they’re committed to keeping the building safe and will review the situation to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Kandler praised the police for being transparent about the mistake and implementing an immediate fix.

“They admitted they made a mistake and added an extra trooper at that north entrance,” he said. “We worked together really well.”

He made the capital a little more safer while he was armed.

  • P b r July 12, 2025, 7:12 pm

BFD! With what lefties are getting away with, he’d have to have shot the place up to be arrested and given $100 bail.

  • P b r July 12, 2025, 7:09 pm

    BFD!

  • Bruce McLaughlan July 12, 2025, 5:33 pm

So no one asked for a gun at the door, and when told of the policy, he complied. So yeah, non issue.

What would happen to just plain old average joe you or me? Thats what I thought. Prosecute the sob, enough of the two-tiered Justus system. Lost all respect for the man just recently when he said game wardens of a state know what wrong but won’t speak out for fear of losing their jobs “PUSS”. Guess that’s easy to say with a net worth of 20 million vs 50-60 thousand a year trying to support a family. Uncle Ted shouldn’t get a pass just because he is on our side. What are we Libtards?

  • Gary Berman July 11, 2025, 10:47 pm

Yes Ted Nugent should be prosecuted. I am a 2nd amendment advocate and a gun owner for years. If average people would do this for any reason we would be in jail or prosecuted assuming it was illegal to be armed in that building. If Uncle Ted wanted to make some point going to court is an excellent way to do so. However, here again those that have are spared the burden of their actions . Dr Berman

  • jerry July 11, 2025, 7:48 pm

Uncle Ted didn’t know that? C’mon. Stay safe. j

  • Danny Phillips July 11, 2025, 5:33 pm

Pussies!!! Fuck the government!!! 2nd amendment trumps all policies.

  • Eric Holder July 11, 2025, 5:32 pm

Yes prosecute Ted Nugent for shooting at Crocket but the Capital thing? Ridiculous, however I know a guy who just walked away with 27 million dollars in laundered money AND there is bank record evidence. Prosecute that guy and confiscate the IGG.

the Last I checked Michigan is part of the USA, the USA has a Constitution and that Constitution has this one nasty little Amendment. The Right to own and bare arms shall NOT be infringed, the second amendment does Not say that our rights to bare arms are limited to a certain area and it doesn’t say that any state government can take away our Rights to bare arms where ever we are. As Long as we are within the Boundaries of the United States that Constitution is right there with us protecting our rights to live free within those boundaries.

  • Blue's Dad July 11, 2025, 3:45 pm

This is such BS stop it he didn’t do anything.

  • Willy Makeit July 11, 2025, 3:39 pm

    No harm intended.

  • Thomas A Adair July 11, 2025, 3:22 pm

Mr. Nugent is a stalwart supporter of the 2nd Amendment and apparently a stand up guy by all accounts. The click bait implies he could be in legal trouble, the article itself doesn’t back that up. Regardless Mr. Nugent is an adult and should be treated no differently than any other person. He does however represent the firearms community and a “mistake” like this just gives the left another reason to pummel all of us with more infringment.

  • Arthur Hackman July 11, 2025, 2:08 pm

Not at all the current administration is corrupt and only protects criminal not the citizens gov.witless is a killer she moved covid patients into nursing homes to kill the weakest among us ! She and her administration cannot be trusted !

  • Rich A July 11, 2025, 1:51 pm

There should always be an armed law abiding citizen ready to go, especially where there is a no guns allowed sign, that is what a shooter might look for to start killing! If they already know Ted then quite being jack asses and let him carry..

  • Terry July 11, 2025, 1:48 pm

heck no. He did them a service by showing a problem with their security at most. He is not and wasn’t a threat to anyone there at any point.

  • Hydguy July 11, 2025, 12:38 pm

Not only no, but FUCK NO

  • Comanche K July 11, 2025, 11:43 am

Are you trying to imply that Mr Nugent intentionally picked the north entrance to sneak a firearm in? That he knew that entrance was down a trooper making that entrance lacking the security of the other entrances? It’s my understanding that Mr Nugent is a sworn officer and is on very good terms with the men & women in blue! If Mr Nugent surrendered his firearm at the check-in/check piont knowing it’d be more secure with the officers than opposed to leaving it in a vehicle, what’s the problem? Some 2nd amendment advocate Larry z is… this is much to do about nothing!

  • Ric July 11, 2025, 10:10 am

IMHO, I believe where ever there is a sign posted NO WEAPONS ALLOWED there should be a gun locker available to legally lock your Weapon when entering a building or an area you are not allowed to enter armed. Saying that also is telling them they are responsible for your safety.

    • Mark July 11, 2025, 4:22 pm

so that sigh TRUMPS the Constitution? the Second Amendment states that our right to own and bare arms shall NOT be INFRINGED; That little sign INFRINGES on that right to Bare arms.

  • M July 11, 2025, 9:38 am

If it was clearly signed no firearms then he should not haveentered while armed.

  • Patrick Marsh July 11, 2025, 9:08 am

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. Nugent did NOTHING wrong.

  • Thomas Boylan July 11, 2025, 9:05 am

If you have a total disregard for our gun rights and the 2nd amendment you would want to prosecute. Liberals flexing muscles where there are none.

  • LMB July 11, 2025, 8:30 am

HE OFFICIALLY DIDN’T ENTER THE CAPITAL WITH A GUN!!! HE SURRENDERED IT WHEN INFORMED OF THE RULES! NO MALICE OF INTENT WHEN HE CARRIED!! THIS IS HIS 2ND. AMENDMENT RIGHT AS HE CARRIES 90% OF THE TIME WHEREVER HE GOES!!

  • LJ July 11, 2025, 8:10 am

There’s a lot missing from this story we’re not getting, but Terrible Ted was deputized a long time ago if memory serves me, so he’s licensed to carry into restricted areas, right?

    • Tom July 11, 2025, 4:39 pm

I was hoping someone would mention the fact that he is a deputy sheriff.

  • Kane July 9, 2025, 1:06 pm

To add a little more, TN was CC and the detection system at the Capitol alerted the guard, but the warning was missed initially by the one guard at the entrance. It seems, TN turned was armed while testifying and later turned his weapon later to “troopers.” MI “law makers” are allowed to CC in the Capitol building. Not that big of a deal but turning over a weapon is never a welcome event.

  • Mark M July 9, 2025, 8:36 am

If my memory serves me correctly I thought he was deputized which would give him the right to go pretty much anywhere armed.

  • paul I'll call you what I want/1st Amendment July 9, 2025, 3:51 am

    why???
