Gun owners just scored a big win—but we’re not done yet.
The U.S. House Committee on Ways & Means has released text for the upcoming Reconciliation Bill, and buried in the pages is a major pro-2A development: a provision to slash the outdated $200 National Firearms Act (NFA) tax on suppressors to $0.
That’s right. A tax that’s been punishing lawful firearm owners since 1934 could finally be eliminated. But here’s the catch—suppressors would still remain under the unconstitutional shackles of the NFA.
John Commerford, Executive Director of NRA-ILA, made the NRA’s position crystal clear:
“The NRA fully supports removal of suppressors from the NFA and will work to achieve that goal as the Reconciliation Process continues.”
This isn’t just about tax relief. It’s about restoring rights.
Suppressors—legal in 42 states—protect hearing, reduce recoil, and increase range safety. Yet the federal government continues to treat them like machine guns, demanding lengthy ATF approval processes, fingerprints, photographs, and—until now—a $200 tax stamp.

The Reconciliation Bill could be our ticket out.
Because of the special rules surrounding budget reconciliation, this bill only needs a simple majority vote in both the House and Senate. That means there’s a real opportunity to go beyond the suppressor tax cut and strip suppressors from the NFA completely.
How? By adding Section 2 of the Hearing Protection Act—the part that removes suppressors from the NFA entirely.
But Congress moves fast—and if gun owners sit on their hands, we could miss this window.
Here’s what you need to do right now:
📞 Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Ask to speak to your U.S. Representative. Tell them to support adding Section 2 of the Hearing Protection Act to the Reconciliation Bill.
This is the best shot we’ve had in years to get suppressors out of the NFA. Let’s not waste it.

In reality the Gang Bangers and Psycho’s are dancing with joy in the streets on the possibility of silencers with no background checks. The Far Right excuse and smokescreen in regards to labeling it an ear protection issue ignores the fact that ear muffs and plugs have been doing that already for over 200 years.
Let us face the horrific fact that a Psycho armed with an AR-15 assault rifle and a .22 rimfire conversion kit and a silencer could wipe out large numbers of people at a parade or 4th of July gathering before the people even knew they were being shot at. This is why background checks via the NFA law is so very necessary and if the antiquated $200 tax were updated to reflect the inflation that occured since 1933 the fee would now be $4,919.98 today.
People will kill people with or without hearing protection. Regardless of background checks, tax stamps, waiting periods, etc. Bottom line. Crazy is as crazy does

I sent an email.
I guess we should just be glad the tax fee hasn’t followed the rate of inflation since it was implemented in 1934 with the NFA, otherwise the stamp would cost you $4,773 in todays dollars. I’m surprised the demoncrats haven’t pushed that issue and loophole.
With the ability of the BATF to electronically do their background checks on people, that tax should be completely eliminated. Truth be known, it would probably actually save the government money not having to deal with it, because the money collected is miniscule. The whole purpose of the tax, as I understand it, was to deter people from purchasing fully automatic weapons to begin with.
Ok – if that the reason, do the electronic background check, eliminate the tax, and add a 90 day “cooling off” period for automatic weapons. Ancillary devices like suppressors shouldn’t have ANY wait time whatsoever. Serialization should be sufficient, like guns.

You should have quit here as this is apparently as far as your knowledge extends.
In reality the tax should have been raised to $3,000. Too many people now own silencers. The Far Right cannot ever see past the nose on their face. Gang Bangers are rejoicing as are Homicidal Maniacs because killing one person or a large group is now made astronomically easier. A Nut Case with an Assault Rifle equipped with a silencer and a .22 conversion kit is so quiet that the Maniac could kill a large number of people in a crowd before they even realized what was happening. Lets cut right through the Far Right propaganda and complete bull, if you want to protect your hearing ear muffs and plugs are a heck of a lot cheaper. If you want to get rid of your boss or wife or a crowd of people that is the reason many people buy a silencer as it has zero to do with saving your hearing when one can simply put on a pair of ear muffs.
Nice to hear from someone who clearly does not know what they are talking about. You’ve watched too many movies dude. Suppressors do not “Silence anything”. What they so is suppress the sound around 30db. Same as good muffs or earplugs. Gunfire is around 160 for many cartridges. What this means is you will still lose your hearing with a Suppressor over time if you don’t also wear muffs or ear plugs. Muffs or ear plugs are not enough. I am 67 years old and have shot competition all my life using both muffs and plugs. They are a necessary to prevent hearing damage over time. In many countries it is considered rude to show up at a range without one. What they do not do is anything to silence the bullet in flight. Even a subsonic bullet like a .22LR is quite noticeable in flight. It makes a distinctive whistle. Supersonic bullets still carry a sonic boom in flight. This is too late for me. It is for my Grandchildren.
I have fired assault rifles with a .22 rimfire conversion kit and a silencer you could indeed wipe out a crowd of people in seconds before they even knew you were shooting at them. With the background noise of a huge crowd or just the noise passing traffic no one would even hear the rifle being fired at them. To repeat and emphasize the noise I experienced was less that an old fashioned child’s cap gun going off.
So do not quote me decibels because its a smoke screen to mask the terrifying truth about what can happen when a Psycho gets a silencer because he was able to do so without a background check through the NFA law. To again quote your own quote “It is you not I that does not know what he is talking about”.
By the way to quote a chilling reply of quite a few people I interviewed as to why they “really wanted a silencer since they could just buy a pair of earmuffs instead of spending north of a $1,000 for a silencer they replied that the real reason they wanted a silencer was and I quote “In case I ever needed one”. Now if that does not send chills down your spine you are not living in the real world.
Get educated about what you want to discuss before you get on a 2A platform to spew the bc you learned from Hollywood.
Looks like we have a communist in the group
(or a Democrat LOL)
Thank you Patricio for the very high compliment. I am a Democrat and a proud Socialist and to surprise you even further we Socialists all own firearms but believe in keeping them out of the hands of criminals and lunatics. That is the only real difference between you and I. I can prove my point through History. Responsible gun laws do indeed work as the crime rate , homicide rate, and mass murder rate of Civilized countries that have tough gun laws have proven this for decades. Survey after Survey taken in the U.S. proves that the average gun owner is a responsible citizen and realizes we do have a serious problem with guns in this country and they do not mouth the radical Far Right belief in zero gun control laws. Universal Background Checks, safe storage laws, and red flag laws are supported by the majority of gun owners and all civilized countries have them and they also do indeed still own firearms, it’s just that the criminals and mentally ill own far less of them over there than those who live in the U.S.
You are full of shit. I live in Texas, where we don’t have gun laws. And we have very little crime.
Let’s look at all the socialist cities where you dumbasses have passed strict gun laws. For example, Chicago. One of the highest crime rates in the country. No one believes your stupid surveys. Universal background checks, red flag laws, safe storage laws, etc, etc do not deter crime. Criminal do not follow guns laws. Socialist like yourself love gun laws because the first thing they do is make a gun registry to find out where all the guns are. Then they confiscate the guns. The next step is to kill whoever they want because no one has guns to defend themselves.
This is the USA. We’ve been civilized for centuries. We also have millions and millions of guns. The only thing that has changed in the last 100 years are politicians trying to pass guns laws that violate our Second Amendment. 1934 National Firearms Act. 1968 Gun Control Act. 1990’s Gun Free Zone legislation. We never had school shootings before 1990. I would say that the United States is the most civilized country in the World. Soldiers brought home machine guns and other rifles from WW1 and WW2 and we didn’t have a spike in murder rates.
As for safe storage, my grandfather kept his rifles and shotguns in a pantry in the kitchen. He also kept some rifles and shot guns on racks in the closet in the bedrooms. That’s called safe storage because we knew if we touched them without his permission, we would get our ass beat. Most likely with a switch.
All gun laws are unconstitutional. Only yellow bellied liberals want to pass gun laws.
My conclusion after reading your reply is that you are a Dumbass.
In reality Patricio the majority of guns used in Homicides in big cities come from States like yours that have lax gun laws in regards to the selling of second hand guns. Police and also FBI tracings of crime guns prove that there is an “Iron Highway” of used guns flooding into big cities that have tough gun laws and they are coming from Southern States with lax gun laws. This is exactly why we need Federal Laws that would require all gun sales even used ones go through a Federal Background Check. I dare say I once taught a 5th grade class and even they understood this.
Again 1,600 Children died needlessly every year from gun accidents in the home. All civilized countries require guns to be locked up when not attended by an adult and their astronomically lower child death rates prove that safe storage laws not on ly work but only a lunatic society would not have them.
Did you ever wonder why Japan has the lowest homicide rate and mass murder rate in the world. It’s because of strict gun laws which by the way do allow you to own a centerfire semi-auto rifle or shotgun. They have 3 police interviews with you, your neighbors and co-workers are interviewed, your history including your internet history is reviewed, you are required to store guns in a safe, you are not allowed to have any guns loaded in the home, you have to take a gun safety course and pass a test on Japan’s gun laws. The result is the lowest homicide and mass murder rate in the world yet people still go skeet shooting with semi-auto shotguns and hunt bears and deer with semi-auto rifles and semi-auto shotguns, refuting the Far Right Baloney, propaganda and bold face lies that registration always leads to confiscation.
Again History has proven you very wrong on your screaming for zero gun control laws.
Did you ever wonder why Switzerland has a lower homicide and mass murder rate than the U.S. even though their citizens can own semi-auto rifles and even full auto rifles. Again its because of strict gun laws.
Both of the above countries have Red Flag laws, safe storage laws, gun registration and a lengthy background check and safe gun handling courses before purchasing any firearm.
Patricio History has already proved you wrong on gun control and no amount of excuses or deflection or side stepping will change the facts and the facts are we need strict gun control like the entire rest of the civilized world has had for decades if we are to survive as a sane and much safer society.
Try again Patricio your speech did nothing to prove your viewpoint, in fact your speech only proved my counterpoint as valid because of the history of gun control resulting in way less homicide and mass murder because such laws do indeed make it light years tougher for lunatics and criminals to get guns in the first place. Your way actually places guns in the hands of people who should not have them because they can buy all the second hand guns and firepower they want. Now if that is not pure insanity nothing would be.
Okay Dumbass. I read your diatribe.
Go read the Second Amendment.
Souther States with lax gun laws don’t have crime and murder rates like Chicago. And law abiding citizens that live in Illinois drive to Indiana to buy their guns and ammunition. They don’t travel to Southern States. Criminals trade weapons in a black market. Criminals don’t follow the law.
The United States is the only nation with gun rights – The Second Amendment. We don’t give a fuck about what other countries do.
Japan has the lowest crime rate because they are the most civilized country in the world. I’ve travelled extensively across the country of Japan. The elementary school children walk together to school without chaperones because the Japanese adults in the village keep a vigilant eye out for the children. In Tokyo, you can leave your wallet by accent in an open air market, and no one will touch it. The people will wait for the owner to come back and get their wallet. It’s not because of some gun laws in Japan. There are plenty of guns in Japan.
Guns do not need to be locked up. My grandfathers and fathers, uncles never locked up their guns. As kids, we knew that if we touched the rifles or handguns, we would get our asses whipped. The men in our family taught us to respect guns and the damage they could do to an animal or another human being. We were taught firearms safety. We didn’t need a government to control us. The 1934 National Firearms Act and the 1968 Gun Control Act were the two anti-gun legislation to be passed by Liberals that violate the Second Amendment and need to be repealed. I have a gun safe that I store my rifles in – not to stop my son from touching them. My son knows better and respects firearms because of what I’ve taught him from a young age. I have the safe because one of my rifles is worth about $5500 with all the accessories on it (rifle, scope, suppressor, etc…..) I don’t lock up my EDC at night. I keep it on the night stand. Why? because my son is old enough to know not to touch it. He sees me carrying it all the time. I will most likely buy him a new hunting rifle for Christmas this year, so he can go deer hunting with me. He graduates from high school next week.
The only history regarding gun laws you need to concern yourself with are gun registration and gun confiscation. Let me help you out, Dumbass. Mussolini did it in Italy. Hitler and the Nazis did it in the late 1930’s that resulted in the killing of millions of Jews. Stalin did the same thing in 1929. Rwanda in 1994 disarmed the Tutsi people, which let to genocide. There are many more examples of this. So the American People will not allow the Federal Government to create gun registration. If that ever happens, We the People will use our guns to wipe out the Politicians who pushed such legislation.
Switzerland has lower homicide rates because the citizens of Switzerland are required to serve in the military and keep semi-automatic weapons in their homes. They do not have strict gun laws. You are just making shit up. Israel is the same way. Military service and citizens are encouraged to open carry with semi-auto and full auto rifles. But, I don’t care about other countries. I’m focused on the United States and our God-given rights.
I want to go back to the days when you could walk into the local drug store and buy a Browning BAR, like the 2 Texas Rangers that killed Bonnie and Clyde. Before they passed the 1934 National Firearms Act. No FFLs, No filing out any forms when you buy a rifle or a handgun. No need for paperwork when you buy a suppressor. The good old days when you could order your new hunting rifle or a Colt 1911 through the Sears Roebuck catalogue and have it mailed to your doorstep in the country. The American way.
You didn’t prove anything. 1776 is all the history I need to prove you wrong:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Patricio you show your ignorance about U.S. and European gun laws,
Hitler actually relaxed gun control laws when he came into power and only banned Jews from having guns and Jews at that time period were very anti-gun so the new law meant nothing to them at that time.
In realty Red States have higher homicide rates that Blue States do. Notice we are speaking about the entire state not just a city.
And your paranoia over registration again shows your ignorance. Most all foreign countries have registration and they still own firearms in many of them. Europe and Japan as just 2 of many examples.
In reality the Government does not need registration to ban firearms. Once a certain model is banned you could never shoot it at a public range and not get caught. You could not use it in a self defense situation. You could never sell it without being caught and going to prison and being fined.
Your rant on the Second Amendment shows that you know nothing of its history. Jefferson and Madison wrote up 2A because they were worried about Slave revolts spreading here from Haiti and also the large amount of runaway U.S. Slaves that joined up with the British during the Revolutionary War fiasco which set American prosperity back at least 25 years and robbed the U,S. of true Democracy and a parliamentary government.
NFA which installed this ridiculous rule, and the GCA, all are unconstitutional and that’s what should be addressed here not some silly tax!
Get rid of the constitutional violations!
