A morning stop for gas turned into an armed confrontation in Orland Park, Illinois. Police say the customer targeted in an attempted robbery had a concealed-carry license, and he shot the suspect.
The incident happened Tuesday, Sept. 15, at a Shell station near 151st Street and Harlem Avenue. Officers responded around 9 a.m., according to FOX 32 Chicago’s reporting.
CBS News Chicago’s report described surveillance footage showing a masked man approaching a customer who was pumping gas into an Acura. The approaching man appeared to have a handgun.
The customer reached behind his waistband, drew his own firearm and fired. The suspect fell, got back up and fled.
Police later located the wounded suspect and took him to a hospital. The customer stayed and cooperated with investigators.

For the family operating the station, the confrontation was something they hadn’t experienced before. Naseem Elmosa, whose family owns the business, told NBC Chicago that previous incidents hadn’t involved guns. NBC also reported that no one else was injured.
FOX 32 spoke with a United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) instructor who emphasized awareness and training. He also noted that avoiding or backing away from a threat is something they teach before using a firearm.
That’s the practical takeaway for carriers: an ordinary errand can change quickly. Being armed doesn’t replace paying attention (both are key!), and the response afterward matters, too.
But the investigation isn’t finished. Police describing an attempted armed robbery is not the same as a final determination about the shooting (though based on the available evidence this appears to be a good shoot).
As of the reports reviewed for this article, neither person had been publicly identified. The suspect’s condition remained unknown, and authorities had not announced charges. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
