GENESEO, ILL. (07/24/24) – Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the launch of the Prodigy™ AOS 9mm pistol in a Cerakote® Coyote Brown finish. This new Prodigy variant is available in both 5” and 4.25” variants, in both standard-capacity and 10-round versions.

The 1911 DS Prodigy represents a modern take on the proven 1911 platform, providing shooters with double-stack capacity and a performance-driven feature set. The Cerakote Coyote Brown coating not only enhances the durability and performance of the firearm, but also offers significant benefits in terms of longevity and ease of care.

Featuring an expertly engineered double-stack magazine, the pistol is optics-ready with raised fiber-optic front/u-notch rear sights. It also features an ambidextrous safety and Picatinny rail. Mounted to the pistol’s forged steel receiver is a polymer grip module that offers capacities of 17+1 in a flush-fit magazine and 20+1 in an extended magazine, both included with the Prodigy. An optional 26-round magazine is also available.

The polymer grip module features a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment, made popular on the Hellcat® and Echelon™ families of 9mm pistols. Matching up with this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations. Both it and the steel receiver feature the rugged Coyote Brown Cerakote finish. Housed within the slide is a match-grade bushingless forged stainless steel bull barrel.

Configured for today’s most demanding applications, the Prodigy is ready to accept a wide range of optical sights. Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, the Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a rear sight and are designed specifically to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition.

The pistol ships with a cover plate with rear sight as well as one optics-mounting plate designed for the HEX™ Dragonfly™ along with a variety of today’s most popular red dots. Additional plates designed to accept a wide range of today’s most popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store. You can see a full fitment/optics compatibility chart for the AOS plate system here.

Seriously Springfield, your first expansion of the Prodigy line is cosmetic despite the opportunity for y’all to provide the obvious functional option that us grown men really want… Why are we still impatiently waiting on this gun to be offered in a higher caliber? It’s been almost 2 years since September 2022 when we were equally excited and disappointed at the same time about the announcement of this extremely impressive pistol priced within everyone’s reach that would only be available chambered in 9mm.

Springfield is worse than the smokin hot, bottle shaped bitch who loves to tease but never let’s you bang. Us grown ass men can’t stand these blue balls anymore Springfield, PLEASE LET US BANG!!!
