Jake Paul just jumped into the Second Amendment debate, and he did not exactly ease into the shallow end.
During a recent interview, Paul argued that the Constitution needs an update. That opening probably made plenty of gun owners brace for another celebrity lecture about banning ARs.
Then Paul took the conversation somewhere almost nobody expected.
He suggested Americans may eventually need access to drones, electronic countermeasures, RPGs and even anti-helicopter weapons.
Yes, that Jake Paul.

Paul’s Argument
Paul’s basic concern is the growing gap between citizens and the government.
The Second Amendment, he argued, was intended to prevent the government from gaining unchecked power over the people. However, pistols and shotguns could become increasingly irrelevant against autonomous robots, drones and other advanced systems.
Paul said the right to bear arms risks becoming little more than a recreational hobby if citizens cannot resist a technologically superior government.

He admitted he did not know exactly what civilian access should include. Still, he argued that the public may eventually need more advanced defensive tools.
Paul stumbled on some history. The Constitution was completed and signed in 1787, not 1781. The Second Amendment became part of the Bill of Rights in 1791.
Colion Noir was willing to forgive the error.
Noir’s Unexpected Agreement
Noir initially thought Paul was heading toward the familiar argument that privately owned firearms cannot challenge a modern government.
Instead, Paul flipped that argument around.
If rifles are supposedly useless against drones and armored vehicles, Paul’s answer was not to restrict the rifles. His answer was to let citizens own more capable weapons.
Noir found that logic surprisingly refreshing.

He has long argued that the word “arms” does not mean only pistols, shotguns or AR-15s. The Second Amendment’s text does not list specific firearm types or magazine capacities.
Where Noir disagreed was Paul’s proposed solution.
Noir does not believe Americans need a rewritten Constitution. He believes the government needs to follow the one already in place.
He also questioned whether a tyrannical government would simply destroy entire cities. A government needs people, infrastructure and something left to control.
Autonomous robots, however, gave him a little more pause.
That is where the conversation wandered into Terminator territory, armor-piercing ammunition and the possibility of someday visiting the neighborhood drone-EMP counter.
So, Is Jake Paul Right?
Paul’s proposal raises plenty of practical and legal questions. Still, he managed to revive an old Second Amendment debate from an unusual direction.
Should civilian arms keep pace with government technology? Does the Second Amendment protect access to weapons beyond ordinary firearms? Or does the line have to be drawn somewhere, even if that widens the power gap between citizens and government?

Why America’s Gun problem is not getting solved.
When it comes to sane gun control which is keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and lunatics nothing gets done and 45,000 Americans die needlessly every year. The question is why????
When dealing with the Far Left they want to ban all gun ownership and when dealing with the Far Right they want to do away with all gun laws because of their paranoia, racism, bigotry, and xenophobia. A no compromise mentality of both extremes has turned the U.S. into a shooting gallery where even the majority of Conservatives realize we have have a big gun problem with the wrong people getting all the firepower they want.
In civilized countries they have tough gun laws but many still have gun ownership, not only in Europe but also in the Far East as well.
A friend of mine who was corresponding with a girl from the Far East was totally astonished when she sent him pictures of her machine gun collection and semi-auto handguns. But they do not have the mass murder and mayhem we have. The question is why with all those machine guns in legal private ownership?
In the U.S. due to President Reagans ban on the sale of new manufactured machine guns made them not affordable to the average American and Reagan was a Republican proving he was one of Americans greatest threats to the Second Amendment.
The Far Right like to howl from the rooftops about Japan’s strict gun control but in Japan you can actually buy a semi-auto high powered rifle or shotgun there. A documentary featuring an American Navy Ex-pat now living in Japan went through the paperwork that enabled him to buy both types of weapons.
I myself watched “Journey’s in Japan” a TV program featuring the people of Japan and their way of life and guess what I saw. An actor from Canada was filming his journey through Japan when he happened upon a group of Japanese hunters and guess what weapons they were carrying to hunt deer with, they were FN semi-auto sporting rifles. Another episode showed Japanese bear hunters using semi auto and also pump shotguns.
All this begs the question why does Japan have such a low crime rate with guns compared to the U.S. Its simple really, the in depth gun laws and training necessary to get a gun permit has been a success. The same is true of Europe’s gun laws as well. It was no accident that several years ago in Britain that Terrorists were denied shotgun permits after an in depth back ground check so they attacked British patrons drinking in a pub and got the crap beat out of them when they tried to kill using box cutters. In the U.S. the terrorists would have bought unvetted secondhand weapons and massacred everyone in the bar in seconds as what happened in Orlando Florida as just one example of many.
These general gun laws can be found in most civilized countries that “still allow” gun ownership:
1. Registration of all weapons and no private unvetted sales. Two Chicago studies proved the average crime gun had been through many hands and was unvetted and sold to the criminal element.
2. Training in safe gun handling
3. Knowledge of all gun laws
4. Restrictions or bans on weapons of war used for mass killing.
5. Restrictions or bans on carrying in public as studies showed overwhelmingly that there were far more deaths when society was a gun toting Dodge City where even the most minor altercations resulted in shoot outs like road rage and even arguments over parking places. Even the folk hero Wyatt Earp realized the danger of drunken cowboys bringing in guns to his city and having shoot outs way back in the 1800’s. Again we learned nothing from our own History.
6. Safe storage laws which prevent many thefts and accidental shootings in the home, 1,500 children die needlessly every year from loaded firearms laying around the house. In fact in Colonial America long before the Second Amendment was passed there were city bans on loaded guns in the home and those laws remained in effect after 2A went into effect way back in the late 1700’s. We have learned nothing from History it seems.
7. Mental Health tests to weed out people with a long history of violence and mental illness. People like this should be banned permanently from owning firearms. One of the leading causes of Women’s deaths is by enraged out of control Husbands killing them who had a long history of violence often coupled with mental illness.
8. Funding for State Paid for Mental Health treatment which was cut back to almost nothing including the closing of many treatment centers under the far right stingy President Reagan. It proved to be an absolute societal disaster costing far more than what mental health care would have cost. Another classic case of Republicans consistently being their own worst enemies because of penny squeezing until the pennies screamed for mercy while passing through their greedy hands.
9. Free Drug rehabilitation centers because when an addicted person is given free drugs under a supervised treatment program the Drug Dealers soon go out of business and drug gang shootouts become virtually extinct. Many people are killed in the crossfire of Drug Gang shoot outs. A drug addicted society cost far more in policing and incarceration than a treatment center cost. Under Nixon (tricky Dick) the 3 strikers and your out law costed billions in policing and incarceration and proved to be a disaster and drug crime actually went up not down. People who came out of prison after long years of incarceration had no job skills and no job retraining (to save money) and their only method of survival was selling drugs. Another stingy hair brained Republican law that proved to be the Republicans own worst enemy.

AI isn’t what tipped off the police in Britain, it was a farmer who noticed suspicious activity. It doesn’t seem like thier whereabouts were known until a phone call. I know they were under surveillance previously, yet they were close to the objective when a civilian saw them.

Can a revolution still be possible with AI? It can be. AI is nothing more than information that can be corrupted. Rival AI and human input can cause havoc.
Is revolution a good idea? I would think too many competing Countries would be involved, the situation would be a scale of devastation never seen. Ukraine would be pale in comparison.
As far as voting for Democrats as saviors? Inflation would skyrocket based on the free things they offer in the current platforms. Free costs money. I don’t count on Republicans either. We need to return to Constitutional government, not what both sides have created by trying to gain power. The Constitution laid out how government is operated. The BOR laid out restrictions on government not the citizens. Get back to that and we would be better off.
Immigration control is not facists. Immigration control is not even racists. Remember there was a time immigrants had to show they could support themselves, learn English, assimilate and be free of illness. Illegal immigration doesn’t meet any of those standards. Illegal immigrants broke laws to be here. Just as if you illegally crossed the border in any other Country you would be charged with a crime and deported or serve time in prison. Even those enlightened Countries have immigration laws. Some better enforced than others.

I am not rich. I got a tax break. No tax on overtime bought gold, silver and a new gun. My 401K benefitted as well.

While it is true Europe was weak on a self defense budget since the Ukraine war broke out and Herr Drumpf cut way down on U.S. funding of boots on the ground in Europe the 5 year Ukrainian war has shown zero deductions in health care in Europe even in the much less affluent Eastern European Countries. Here we can have a legitimate argument. In all I have seen you post this one statement has merit. It does seem too convenient, but it is the simplest explanation. Only time will tell the true case of the matter.

News reports claim a woman saw a group of men in masks. Now what sounds fishy about this story? In reality if you were planning on attacking a U.S. Military base you know you would probably not survive the hail of fire from the people at the military base and even if you did you would be captured so why the masks? In reality this “so called” news story was probably a “plant” by British Intelligence to make Iran think that their intelligence services were vulnerable and even inferior. Over 180 thousand people die in Capitalvania because they cannot even afford preventive health care or affordable drugs. Wrong!!! Jefferson and Madison were in a panic over the slave revolt in Haiti at that time. White slave owners were fleeing to America and brining with them some of their slaves who then passed the information about the slave revolt to American Slaves. The Second was supposed to do two things. It was supposed to sucker the independent states into joining the Federal Government and they would keep the right to have their own independent Militias to murder any slaves that revolted to gain their freedom. The Second was all about racism and slavery, period. Colonial Militias even confiscated arms from people who did not tow the party line. See the book “The Second” by Carol Anderson”.
In Colonial America there abounded many anti-gun laws that were in effect way before the Second Amendment was ever written and were never rescinded after it was written. In fact the anti-gun laws became more common and increased gradually up to the present day. There were State and City laws against concealed carry, against keeping a loaded gun in the house (because of all the child fatalities) laws against selling guns to formerly convicted criminals, laws against guns in bars or even bringing a gun into the city, just to name a few of these laws.

Looking at “any” revolution in the past and to the present the rebels must be supplied by a foreign country willing to spend huge sums to arm the rebels and even send troops to help them. Witness the American Revolution where arms came in from foreign countries and the French Army and Navy jumped into the fray which tipped the balance to the American revolutionaries who had only 33% support from the American people.

I agree with Colion Noir – the government needs to follow the 2nd Amendment we already have, rather than for us to take the chance of drafting, passing and having a new amendment ratified by 3/4 of the states.
Mr. Paul really should have brought up the 3rd Amendment for discussion on the topic. It matches his opinion nicely.
I encourage every citizen to re-read 3A, and think about what they’d need to protect their land, property and family when those Troops, foreign, or domestic, wish to quarter on one’s land and procure one’s property (and/or daughters) for their own benefit vs. yours.
To bring about any kind of meaningful convincing the squad leader that “NO!” really means “NO!”, you best have the appropriate means to give him/her second thoughts. After all, somewhere else nearby there will be another citizen who doesn’t know their rights and has no means of telling those troops that their wife and daughters are not common property. A good squad leader would move on if his/her troops weaponry was matched or exceeded by the property owner.
When folks say that 3A is obsolete, best to remind them that it was very much a problem back then, enough of one to make it to the top 10 Amendments. History is doomed to repeat itself, I hope you always consider the importance of 3A and it’s working in concert with 2A and several of the other top 10 . . .
I have to believe/hope that if it became again necessary for the citizens of the United States to eventually cast off another corrupt government that those currently serving in the military and law enforcement would lean to the side of the Constitution (which they take an oath to defend & protect) rather than members of that corrupt government. No, I’m not naive enough to think that there aren’t some self-serving knuckleheads currently serving who would defy their oath, but I do believe the vast majority would follow their oath. In doing so, I believe the actions of this vast majority of current military and law enforcement patriots would override the necessity for advanced weapons (not that I am against it) being held by ordinary citizens. If no one flies/operates, fuels, reloads the planes, tanks, drones, missiles, etc., then they become harmless inanimate objects. And more importantly if those military patriots decided to use those planes, tanks, drones, missiles, etc. in the fight against a corrupt government the fight would be extremely short lived. In fact, I think we have seen some recent examples of this whereby local sheriffs are defying sanctuary state governors and AGs and assisting federal officials in rounding up illegal alien criminals.
As an officer and upholder of everyone’s rights once the ability of the people to defend against a tyrannical government, once the government’s ability through technological advancement outstrips the common persons ability to enforce our god given rights and ability to resist said tyrannical government in my opinion concessions have to be made. Which means by definition of the second amendment we law abiding and proud Americans need the capability to resist a tyrannical government. So yes you f it means legal non felon possession of serious arms the second amendment demands it. The public at the very least deserves the ability to effect change even if through violence a tyrannical government it’s the basis of and foundation of our country. One can not be expected to defend against a tyrannical government without the necessary arms to do so. I’m not advocating that we all get super sonic jets with radar defeating material but the more advanced the government gets the more decided the country the population deserves the right to meet force with force in an acceptable balance. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. That’s fact If the people honorable people don’t or can’t resist a tyrannical government then it makes the second amendment mute. This may disappoint many pro-militia readers but there is absolutely no scenario where a militia is going to overcome the professionals in an organized national military and especially all the resources at the disposal of our government.
The best evidence of this was in the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Many towns activated their local militia to defend against the invading Russian military but were quickly mowed down and left for dead. Residents of nearby towns said they could hear the screams and moans of the dying militia members coming from the wooded areas where the battles took place but were unwilling to go to their rescue for fear of being mistaken for militia members themselves.
I get it, it’s fun to LARP as a real warrior but there’s absolutely no comparison to professional combat fighters. Anyone arguing that point is only fooling themselves. The US military took Venezuela in less than 24 hours…you think a bunch of hillbillies and their trailer park buddies are gonna do any better?

Well, back in the day, towns used to =require= milita musters. IIRC, every able-bodied male from 16 to 45 had to show up for a day or two of training and had to bring a servicable long arm and beans, bullets and powder for 2 days. Small artillery was often provided by the town or a wealthy individual and members were trained in live fire excercises. From what I’ve read, it wasn’t uncommon, in later years, that Gatling guns were also part of these musters as well as even larger cannons. In this age of equality, I’d expand the definition of militia to just about =anyone= without a criminal record, male, female and able to walk and carry a 40-50 lb pack for a few miles.

I have always believed that “arms” meant weapons of war — after all, the purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to maintain an armed citizenry capable of resisting a tyrannical government. We lost a lot of ground in the mid-twentieth century when gun advocates allowed that argument to lose focus and slip into the sole realm of hunting — not even self defense. I fault the NRA here, but there’s lots of blame to go around.

The American citizen already has the most powerful weapon in the world and that the world has ever known. It is a weapon never gets old, never wears out, will always be more powerful than any physical weapon that will ever be made, and can get better with constant use. In case you have not figured out what I am referring to, it is the American citizens right to vote. The right to vote in local elections including school board members, city representatives, yes, perhaps even the proverbial “local dog catcher”. Elected state officials. Elected federal officials. The right to vote is and will always be more powerful than anything our government (local, state, federal) can ever have or use. The problem is, it’s like having the most powerful hand gun, rifle, tank, missile or bomb, if you don’t use it (the right to vote), and use it wisely, it’s like not having a weapon at all. Notice I mentioned “use it wisely” that means voting for candidates that love America, can effectively work “ across the isle” with other elected officials perhaps from a different party as long as you are both working for the good of the citizens, officials that love, cherish and respect what our Country stands for and will do all to protect and defend, from enemies within and from the outside. That right to vote along with all of our Constitutional and Bill of Rights rights my friends ARE STRONGER, if we exercise those rights, than any weapon or device or government that can ever be made or thought of.

I think Mr. Paul is exactly on track. I think the Second Amendment is absolute. That is, if the government has a capability (weapon) then I can have it also. So if I can afford an M1 tank and had a place to park it, then I can have one. We cannot have the entity that the Second Amendment is to help protect us from determining what tools we can have to resist tyranny.

2A was written to protect the kinds of *individual* arms civilians might own – everything from muzzle-loaders to semi – and I believe, full – auto shoulder arms and handguns. In a sane world some kiind of accountability and chain of custody would be in place but as long as there is a strong political left bent on the government monopolizing the means of force and willing to move the legislative goalposts to use acccountabilty against lawful owners, not gonna happen without resistance.

Well similarly, the government has far better electronic access to personal papers than the founding fathers ever imagined. Today its kind of like keeping your personal papers in a colonial public library for any to peruse through.

I was having a discussion some years ago with a gun owning anti 2nd person. He commented that I believed the people should be allowed bazookas. Well, yes. What controls were put on people at the time of the 2mds writing? Were the people denied the right to buy cannons for example. I have not seen or heard of such a ban. My thinking was the same as Paul’s and to some extant Bidens when Biden said we can get gun control because the weapons of civilians cannot fight against the weaponry of the US so the 2nd is irrelevant. So yes the people should be able to have the weapons to fight tyranny with weapons capable of doing so in modern times.
People were allowed to have Machine guns, BARs and the like up until 1934. They were effectively banned unless you could pay a tax and jump through administrative hoops to get one. But, they are still available, even after the 1986 McClure-Volkmer Act effectively banning interstate sales of “automatic” weapons. The government tried to ban them because they were taking on the criminal element that was heavily armed back then. However, that has failed to work, as the criminal element is heavily armed to the point they could take on police departments, and maybe, National Guard. That’s why it’s essential for all law-abiding Americans to be armed with the weapons necessary to fight off criminals (both private and government criminals).
