Parkland activist and outspoken gun control advocate David Hogg has officially dropped out of the running for DNC Vice Chair — just months after taking the position and shaking up the Democratic establishment.
Hogg made the announcement in a June 11 post on X, saying he’s stepping aside to focus on his political action group, Leaders We Deserve.
I’m thankful to everyone who has supported me in this role. I’m proud to have travelled to 10 states to do 30+ events, raising money for state parties, organizing with young Democrats, and getting out the vote for special elections in Wisconsin and Florida.

The real story? He didn’t jump. He was pushed.
Hogg had reportedly angered party leadership by pushing a $20 million plan to primary establishment Democrats with younger progressive candidates. The backlash was swift — and internal.
DNC members voted to force new elections for key positions, including Hogg’s. The message was clear: sit down, or be voted out.
An internal audio leak captured DNC Chairman Ken Martin admitting Hogg’s presence was draining his will to lead.

“For the first time, I said to myself I don’t know if I want to do this anymore,” Martin said, blaming Hogg’s behavior for undermining his ability to lead.
In public, Hogg tried to frame his exit as a strategic retreat. “We need to be the best option period,” he wrote. “That change can only come through a full embrace of democracy… to regain [voter] trust.”
But behind the scenes, it was a classic intra-party power struggle. Hogg, still in his early twenties, brought energy and media clout — but also burned political capital fast by publicly targeting fellow Democrats.
That violated an unwritten rule: the DNC doesn’t play in its own primaries.
Now, he’ll continue his activism from outside the party tent. Whether that makes him more or less effective remains to be seen.
