Gun sales may ebb and flow, but America’s appetite for firearms is holding strong.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) just released its adjusted NICS background check data for June 2025, showing 1,004,986 checks. That’s a slight dip – down 5.1% from June 2024 – but still over the million mark, even during the usual summer slowdown.

For context, the FBI’s unadjusted NICS numbers for June came in at 1.9 million, down 2.5% from last year.
Where are folks buying the most guns right now? No surprises here – Texas, Florida, and California top the list for both handgun and long gun background checks, with Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, and Tennessee also making appearances in the top slots.
Mark Oliva, NSSF’s managing director of public relations, said the numbers show the resilience of gun ownership despite economic jitters and political pushes to clamp down on rights.

“Background checks in June remained over 1 million, despite the concerns of economic uncertainty and the usual cycle that NSSF sees in decreased background checks during the summer months,” Oliva said.
He pointed to states like Colorado, Oregon, and Rhode Island, which are passing or pursuing laws to restrict gun ownership, making it “more difficult and expensive for law-abiding gun owners.”
Still, he added, the firearm industry is grateful for efforts from the Trump administration to “stand strong in defense of Second Amendment rights and the ability for law-abiding citizens to exercise their rights to keep and bear arms.”
It’s important to note that NICS checks don’t directly translate to sales – a single background check can cover multiple firearms, and in some states, qualified permit holders aren’t required to undergo a new check for every purchase.
But overall, the data shows that even during the dog days of summer, Americans aren’t slowing down when it comes to exercising their rights.

Given the millions of Americans within the democratic party that support the 2nd amendment and have decided to arm themselves, even people just 4 short years ago that wouldn’t have given it a second thought, you would think the demoncratic party would realize they are fighting an uphill battle trying to interfere with Americans’ 2nd amendment rights. Happy 4th people!
