in SHOT Show 2025

Springfield Armory has taken the classic 1911 DNA and given it a modern twist with the release of the 1911 DS Prodigy Compact 9mm.

Offered in 3.5-inch and 4.25-inch barrel lengths, this double-stack powerhouse brings extra capacity to the table without bulking up your concealed carry setup.

The perfect balance of size and firepower?

Carrying a 1911 usually meant sticking to single-stack magazines, but not with the Prodigy Compact. This sleek pistol houses 15 rounds of 9mm in a flush-fitting double-stack magazine.

That means you’re packing serious firepower while still enjoying a slim grip that feels great in hand. Each pistol comes with two magazines, so you’re ready to roll out of the box.

Whether at the range or on the go, the Prodigy Compact is built to perform.

Designed with self-defense in mind, the Prodigy Compact doesn’t skimp on visibility or versatility.

The tritium front sight pairs with a serrated black U-notch rear sight to help you stay on target, even when the lights are low.

Plus, the Agency Optic System makes mounting your favorite optic a breeze. The pistol ships with a HEX Dragonfly-compatible plate, but you can snag additional plates from Springfield Armory to match your optic of choice.

Tight groupings made easy with the Prodigy Compact’s match-grade barrel and smooth trigger pull.

Springfield cut no corners on materials, either. The polymer grip module is mounted to a 7075-T6 aluminum frame, keeping weight down to 25.5 ounces for the 3.5-inch model and 29 ounces for the 4.25-inch.

Forged carbon steel slides and match-grade bull barrels add durability and precision, while the black Cerakote finish keeps corrosion at bay.

Sleek and slim, the Prodigy Compact proves double-stack doesn’t mean bulky.

The Prodigy Compact is all about combining performance with everyday carry comfort.

Its recontoured hammer and beavertail grip safety minimize bulk without sacrificing functionality. Ambidextrous safeties ensure that both right- and left-handed shooters are covered.

Great review. I purchased a Springfield Armory Prodigy 1911DS comp after your review of it.
It shoots incredibly flat and is a great gun. It is not a good daily carry gun due to the size.
I’m strongly considering an Sig P365 AXG Legion for daily carry.
How does this DS Prodigy Compact compare to the Sig P365 X in terms of size?
If you haven’t, you should shoot that AXG Legion. It’s also features an alloy frame, two port integrated expansion chamber and is 17 round capacity.
If you do get a chance to shoot it, please provide a review.
    Thanks

    Thanks!

At that price it’s going to struggle compared with current offerings under $1k. Still, I like seeing more reliable compact 2011’s.
