The best precision .22LR rifles let you practice long-range shooting skills for pennies a shot. Rimfire precision matches like PRS22 and NRL22 have exploded, and makers now build .22 LR bolt guns with match chambers, adjustable chassis, and triggers that break in ounces.
Our writers have competed with and tested them. One built a Zermatt RimX rifle that ran flawlessly at a windy PRS22 match out to 300 yards, another shot two quarter-inch 50 yard groups with a Vudoo Three 60, and we got a 0.67 MOA group from a Bergara BMR-X Steel and a 0.46 MOA group from an upgraded Bergara B14R.
This guide is for shooters who want match-level accuracy. If you want a plinker, a hunting .22, or a kid’s first rifle, see our best .22 LR rifles guide instead. Every price is labeled with when we saw it.

Buyer’s Guide: How To Choose The Best Precision .22LR Rifles In 2026
Precision rimfires vary more than you might think. Start with how you will use the rifle.
Match Shooting Or Practice
If you plan to shoot PRS22 or NRL22 matches, look for a 20 or 30 MOA rail, a stock or chassis with an adjustable cheek and length of pull, and magazines that are easy to find. If you want a practice rifle that mimics your centerfire, a Remington 700 footprint action like the RimX or B14R lets you use the same triggers and chassis.
Rail Cant
Long shots with a .22 LR take a lot of elevation. Our RimX builder held 13.5 mils for some 300 yard shots, which he compared to a 1,350 yard shot with a 6.5 Creedmoor. A 20 or 30 MOA rail helps your scope reach. The BMR-X Steel comes with a 30 MOA rail, the Tikka T1x with a 20 MOA rail, and the Christensen MPR Rimfire with a flat rail.
Triggers
Precision rimfires reward light triggers. The RimX build used a TriggerTech Diamond tuned to 10 to 12 ounces. The Savage 110 RF Elite Precision AccuTrigger adjusts from 1 to 4 pounds. Our B14R reviewer swapped in a TriggerTech and found tight groups much easier to shoot.
Ammo Matters Most
A .22 LR rifle is only as accurate as its ammo. Our Christensen Ranger 22 shot 0.79 MOA with CCI Mini-Mag and almost 3 MOA with other loads. Buy several match loads and test them in your rifle before a match.
Magazines
Several rifles here take Ruger 10/22 rotary magazines, including the Christensen MPR Rimfire and Ranger 22. The RimX uses its own 10-round aluminum magazines, which cost $125 each at the time of review. Bergara BMR rifles use BMR magazines.
Price
Precision rimfires run from budget to custom. In our reviews, the Tikka T1x listed at $468 in 2019, the Ruger Precision Rimfire at $529 in 2018, the BMR-X Steel from $719 in 2025, and the Savage 110 RF Elite Precision at $2,399 in 2026. Our older Bergara BMR review covers the original BMR Steel.

Our reviewer tested the .17 HMR version with Hornady 20 grain and got 100 meter groups just over half MOA, which he called shocking for a rimfire with a fairly light barrel.
