The best .32 Magnum revolvers give you an extra round in the cylinder and noticeably less recoil than a .38 Special or .357 Magnum in the same size gun. Two cartridges carry the .32 Magnum name. The .32 H&R Magnum, introduced in 1984, approaches .38 Special performance with lighter recoil. The .327 Federal Magnum, developed by Ruger and Federal in 2007 and 2008, uses a longer, stronger case to push 100-grain bullets around 1,400 fps, closer to .357 Magnum territory.
The thinner .32 caliber case lets a J-frame or LCR hold six rounds instead of five, and a small-frame Charter Arms hold seven. A .327 Federal revolver can also fire .32 H&R Magnum, .32 S&W Long, and in most cases .32 ACP, so you can practice with mild loads and carry hot ones. That flexibility, plus a wave of new Lipsey’s exclusives, has made the .32 Magnum one of the hottest corners of the revolver market.
We ranked these revolvers on Digest testing first. Our writers have reviewed the Ruger LCR .32 H&R, the S&W 632 and 432 Ultimate Carry, the Ruger SP101 .327, and the Ruger Single-Seven, and we link every review. The Taurus 856 .327 and Charter Arms Professional are covered from launch news, and we say so. Prices are labeled as MSRP at launch or the price at the time of review. One caution: the S&W Model 327 Performance Center revolvers are .357 Magnum guns, not .327 Federal, so they are not on this list.

Buyer’s Guide: How To Choose The Best .32 Magnum Revolvers In 2026
Choosing a .32 Magnum revolver starts with the cartridge, then the frame size, sights, and the loads you can actually find.
.32 H&R Magnum Or .327 Federal
The .32 H&R Magnum is the gentler cartridge. In our S&W 632 review, Hornady Critical Defense 80-grain FTX averaged 979 fps and Buffalo Bore 100-grain +P JHP averaged 1,090 fps from a 1.8-inch barrel. The .327 Federal is much hotter. Our .327 Federal explainer lists Federal American Eagle 100-grain soft points at 1,435 fps and 451 ft-lb. A .327 revolver fires both, while a .32 H&R revolver cannot chamber .327.
Capacity And Size
Capacity is the main reason to choose a .32. The LCR and Ultimate Carry J-frames hold six instead of five, the Ruger Single-Seven and Charter Arms Professional hold seven, and our .32 H&R Magnum vs .38 Special article digs into the trade-offs in weight and penetration. The heavier steel SP101 is easier to shoot well, while 13-ounce alloy guns disappear in a pocket.
Recoil
A light .32 H&R recoils far less than a light .357 Magnum. Our 632 reviewer described it as tamer than a lightweight .357, and our Single-Seven reviewer compared even hot .327 loads in a steel single action to a .22 Magnum. The .327 in a lightweight snub is another story, so match the load to the gun.
Sights And Triggers
Traditional snub sights are small. The Lipsey’s Ultimate Carry guns fix that with an XS tritium front and a true U-notch rear, and our LCR reviewer swapped his front blade for an XS orange dot. The LCR’s friction-reducing cam makes its double-action pull one of the best in class, while our SP101 .327 trigger broke at 10 pounds.
Ammunition
Ammo can be harder to find than .38 Special. Federal, Hornady, Buffalo Bore, and smaller makers such as High Desert Cartridge Company load .32 H&R, and our LCR and 432 UC Ti reviewers found wadcutters and flat points accurate and well suited to short barrels. Buy enough of your carry load to confirm it shoots to the sights.
Speed Loaders And Holsters
Six-round .32 cylinders need .32-specific speed loaders. Our LCR reviewer used the HKS Model 32-J, which worked perfectly. Practice reloads with them, because six small rounds are fiddly under stress. Check holster fit too, since some .32 versions differ slightly from their .38 cousins.

He found the action smooth, consistent, and free of grit, and called the LCR’s trigger best in class. Ruger SP101 .327 Federal Magnum: Best .327 Federal Revolver (2026)
The Ruger SP101 in .327 Federal Magnum is the best all-steel .327 revolver. Our reviewer tested the 4.2-inch version, a stainless gun with a fiber optic front sight, adjustable rear, and a six-round cylinder where the .357 version holds five. It weighs 29.5 ounces, which tames the hot .327 and makes the gun pleasant to shoot.

Offhand at seven yards, he kept five rounds of .32 Long, .32 H&R Magnum, and .327 Federal in about a 1-inch circle. The Ruger Single-Seven is a seven-shot single-action revolver in .327 Federal Magnum, offered as a Lipsey’s exclusive. He had zero failures and consistently shot 1-inch groups from 50 feet off a bench. Buffalo Bore’s 130-grain hard cast load, rated at 1,300 fps, chronographed closer to 1,500 fps, yet he said recoil stayed mild and compared it to a .22 Magnum. That makes it a fine trail gun for the recoil sensitive. Our review did not list a price. Pair it with the Henry .327 Big Boy carbine for a one-cartridge cowboy setup.

We gave the 856 Defender high marks in our earlier full review.
