Frustration boiled over on the streets of Kansas City early Wednesday morning when a homeowner, tired of being repeatedly victimized by car break-ins, defended his property and safety with gunfire.

According to local reports, a young man suspected of breaking into more than 30 vehicles along a four-block stretch of 24th to 28th near Askew Avenue was shot after allegedly threatening a resident.

FOX4 KC spoke with the homeowner, who said he initially tried to scare the suspect off with a laser pointer, but when the man didn’t leave—and reportedly threatened to shoot both him and a neighbor—he fired three rounds in self-defense.

The suspect later showed up at a nearby location on 19th and Cleveland with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. Authorities have not yet said whether charges will be filed against the homeowner, who was questioned and released.

Residents on the block were left shaken—not just by the wave of break-ins, but by the delay in police response.

Multiple 911 calls about the vehicle thefts were reportedly made up to an hour before the shooting. Many are now questioning why help didn’t arrive until after shots were fired.

“This could have been resolved a lot quicker—and nobody would’ve been hurt,” one neighbor told FOX4.

In the aftermath, some neighbors were able to recover stolen items from a vehicle authorities believe was linked to the suspect.

This incident adds to the growing list of defensive gun use cases nationwide, where lawful citizens are pushed to protect themselves when others fail to respond in time.

While police continue to investigate, the debate over self-defense and response times in high-crime areas remains front and center.

Protecting property should be legal for the use of a firearm. Cops can shoot your just for insulting them. Something seems off here.

Is there an active “Go Fund Me” or “Give Send Go” campaign to fund shooting lessons for the man who defended his life and property? If this happens again, I want him to be both confident and accurate.

And that is why the police’s main responsibility is to investigate crimes. They rarely prevent them. It is out duty to defend ourselves.

Good job using that laser pointer as a warning. The homeowner can say that he meant it as such. I once used a laser pointer to save me from attack by an armed gang.

I hope there was a 9mm attached to your ‘laser pointer’. Or was that ‘laser pointer’ set to stun? I have them mounted on several of my Glocks but it’s not the laser dot I would be concerned with, it’s the guy, or girl, standing behind it with their finger on the trigger! 😮

“Multiple 911 calls about the vehicle thefts were reportedly made up to an hour before the shooting. Many are now questioning why help didn’t arrive until after shots were fired”.

All you anti-2nd amendment folks who believe the cops are just a phone call away need to think about this. It happens every day. Most if not all democratic city’s are understaffed by police because dem’s and the BLM crowd pushed their “defund the police” agenda and there’s not enough cops to enforce our laws. Now the BLM communities are pissed because of being terrorized by these dirtbags. You get what you pay for.

Hopefully this hood-rat learned his lesson and realizes crime doesn’t pay. Probably not. This knot-head will be back out doing the exact same thing until someone permanently removes his dumbass from the gene pool. Hopefully it’s before he makes any little hood-rats to be a burden on society.

To the homeowner; be glad you’re not living in the Republic of Kailfornistan because no doubt you would be in jail and the hood-rat would sue you and end up owning your house.

Like the bully in school, the teachers never see them until someone defends themselves. Then they want to blame and punish the kid who defended himself!

All criminals deserve to be removed from the gene pool. They can all have guns, but the Dumbocrats don’t want us to have them. FTD’s

if he is smart he will stay away from that house!

    • LJ April 18, 2025, 10:51 am

That’s the problem, by his actions alone he’s proven he’s an idiot. People are getting damn sick and tired of this shit.

A laser pointer? Did the assailant look like a giant tabby cat?

    • Cz April 18, 2025, 10:50 am

I’ll bet the burglar screached like a Tom cat when he got shot though!!

    • Rock April 18, 2025, 12:09 pm

      Yes, an excellent warning tool.
