Trump’s Third Term? Why the Constitution Slams That Door Shut

in News

There’s been a lot of buzz lately about the possibility of President Trump serving a third term. Some folks online are tossing around legal theories, speculative what-ifs, and even some eyebrow-raising “workarounds.”

But before this chatter spreads too far, Washington Gun Law’s William Kirk breaks it down in classic constitutional fashion: this isn’t just unlikely — it’s legally impossible.

At the heart of it all is the 22nd Amendment. Passed after FDR’s four-term run, it clearly states that no person shall be elected to the presidency more than twice.

That’s the law of the land, and undoing it would take a massive constitutional overhaul — one that requires supermajority support from Congress and state legislatures.

In today’s political climate? Not happening.

Some have floated a Steve Bannon-backed theory: Trump could run as VP, then ascend to the presidency if the sitting president resigns. But the 12th Amendment blocks that too. If you’re ineligible to be president, you can’t be vice president either. Game over.

Even if it were possible, Kirk raises a crucial point: is it good policy? Our founding fathers — Washington and Jefferson included — warned against lifetime power.

They knew how quickly that slips into tyranny. The two-term limit exists not just for legal clarity, but to protect the republic from becoming a monarchy in disguise.

And for those wondering what this has to do with gun rights — it’s simple. Understanding and respecting the Constitution is at the core of the 2A movement.

When we defend one part of the Bill of Rights, we defend them all. As Kirk puts it: “The movement should always be bigger than any one individual.”

So while Trump’s second term is still young, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The Constitution is clear — and thankfully, still in charge.

Trump floats these outrageous things, 3rd Term, Canada as 51st state, Greenland etc in order to keep the liberals heads spinning and exploding. Thus they are distracted from the vital work that he and his team agreed doing to Make America Great Again. I love it.

Congress passed this to prevent Presidents from getting elected 4 times.
Funny how members of Congress spend their whole life in the House of Representatives or in the Senate.
Term limits for the House and Senate.
    No more salary for life

The art of the troll, it’s amusing watching these clowns getting triggered. Btw I voted for this and am pleased so far.

  • mark stambaugh April 4, 2025, 8:49 pm

If America’s enemy, like Russia for example, wanted to destroy us, one way to accomplish that would be to get rid of our institutions, destroy the economy, and replace our form of government. Trump is or on his way, to do all these things.

    I don’t feel great.

    • Hondo April 7, 2025, 1:09 pm

Jim stfu your TDS is more then a little embarrassing, why are leftists such whiney morons? Not feeling great ? To bad you lost.

    • Kane April 7, 2025, 7:00 pm

      jm,
List the institutions that you believe Trump is trying to destroy and how he is attempting this plot? Explain how balancing the budget, closing the trade deficit, securing the border is destroying the economy? What is the most significant measure that you believe Trump has taken to replace our form of government?

  • Jerry April 4, 2025, 2:18 pm

Himself, has a long history of saying things, whether he believes it or not (which isnt always obvious) and watching who freaks out about it and what they do.
Who needs polls, when its commonly known that people lie to pollsters?

Let the My Side Stuff Begin. Me, I voted both left and right since I was old enough to get my Draft # to Nam. I have never followed a party line, and never will. I had hoped Trump would clean up DC during his first term, but he did very little. Now, he might be aiming for the Moon, but I will watch and see if his plan works or not. But, before he won this time I told Me that he will try for a 3rd run and he will mess with all of US USA until he gets his way. So, Both Sides, yes, both sides have to uphold our Constitution and face Trump and his gang’s wrath. A true Patriot does what is best for their country regardless of which party they belong to, so let us get back to being in this together. God Bless Us All

Anyone that wants a third round of Trump is an idiot. Look at the chaos our country is in. It’s an embarrassment. Both sides of the aisle should be ashamed of themselves. Their legions of brainless followers should feel shame so deep they stop participating in politics for a few years. All of you idiots cheering for your chosen team like politics is a sport have done incredible amounts of harm. I feel ashamed to be associated with all of you. People like the chode goblins in this and other comment sections on this site that feel the need to “own the libs” with their moronic pronoun flags. Grow up.

None of us filthy poors have a political voice. We are all too poor. All we can do is make a mess of our communities for the leash holders. Stop bootlicking. No one in power cares about you. Not a single one. They want to you to do the idiotic crap you’re doing so they can slowly strip you of your life and liberty. Stop trying to “own the libs” leave the MAGA cult open your eyes. We’re losing our country.

I want a third round of Trump.
I hope he drains the swamp and hangs all the Treasonous politicians in Congress.

  • Eric April 4, 2025, 9:22 am

It really cracks me up to hear people say Trump is just trolling Democrats when he talks about a third term. People were recently saying the same thing about tariffs.

  • James April 4, 2025, 8:26 am

As much as I like President Trump, I fully agree that We the People and our political representatives should follow the entire Constitution, not just the parts they agree with. As the 21st Amendment shows, if the people are unhappy with the Constitution, there are ways to legally undo poorly thought out Amendments.

i suspect he is rattling the dems cages here

    • NJ April 4, 2025, 7:22 am

Such obvious trolling that I can’t believe how predictable the overreact. Although he’d do it if he lived long enough. His ego is as predictable as their stupidity is.
