According to Fort Worth police, the attempted theft happened around 1:50 a.m. on August 15.

Investigators told FOX 4 KDFW the men used a computer device to bypass the car’s ignition system and even removed a window to gain access.
A Ring camera alert woke the homeowner, who stepped outside to protect his property. What followed was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the homeowner.
Miraculously, no one was injured.
Detectives are asking the public to help identify the suspects, who remain at large. Police stress that someone in the community knows these men or their vehicle.
“If you know them, you’ll recognize them,” said Officer Buddy Calzada.
Authorities urge anyone with information on the “Camaro Crooks” to contact Detective Raynsford at (817) 392-4469.
This case highlights both the growing sophistication of car theft rings—using electronics to hotwire vehicles—and the risks homeowners face when confronting armed criminals.
Police warn the situation could have ended much worse, and are determined to track down the suspects before another violent encounter occurs.

Homeowner should have grabbed a rifle with 30 rounds or a 9mm AR-9 with 40 rounds. And not said anything when he came outside. There would have been two dead criminals. Shoot the first one keep watch and then shoot the second one with the computer inside the car. Last thing you want to do is give a warning to someone with a gun that can return fire.
The fact that no one was known to be injured speaks pretty sadly for the homeowner’s shooting skills. A much better outcome for the long term (Less crime) would have been 2 dead criminals.
I wonder what was behind the targets and what was behind the homeowner. Was anyone else hit? What about property damage?

Maybe old fashioned hidden kill switches might be a good idea
Maybe old fashioned hidden e kill switches might be a good idea
Obviously these are pros. A hand held electronic device that allows them to defect the cars security system and allow them to start it and steal it? It’s too bad the homeowner wasn’t able to permanently end their reign of terror.
