Take note of the name RXM 9mm. You will definitely be hearing more about it.
Ruger and Magpul teamed up to create the modular pistol and dropped unheralded news of it on their respective social media accounts. While this probably isn’t a collaboration that many folks in the industry (or on the customer/buying end) might’ve expected, it’s already the catalyst for a lot of discussion.
The RXM’s description from Magpul reads, “Ruger know-how meets legendary Magpul ergonomics in a modular package that’s built to easily make it your own…” Many other posts, including Ruger’s, are in the same vein.
Here’s a video rundown.
Ruger says it’s the “…result of collaboration between Ruger and Magpul,” and that it “…sets itself apart from other striker-fired, polymer-framed pistols.”
It remains to be seen just how much it sets itself apart, but having the name Magpul in the same product description as Ruger is a good way to start.
According to the press release,
“Ruger and Magpul Industries have collaborated to introduce the RXM 9 mm pistol, which sets itself apart from its competition by offering maximum flexibility and customization via a removable stainless steel Fire Control Insert (FCI) set inside an interchangeable Magpul Enhanced Handgun Grip (EHG). As part of their ongoing collaboration, Ruger and Magpul will be offering a variety of grip frames so that consumers can customize their pistol to meet shifting tastes and needs.”
In addition to a number of Ruger-centric frame, slide and grip features, the RXM boasts a number of Magpul features, to wit:
‘The Magpul EHG offers consumers premium features, including Magpul’s ¾-scale TSP texture, which provides a comfortable, secure grip. Other EHG features include: textured indexing pads for consistent finger/thumb placement; a low-profile, flared magazine well for quick and easy magazine insertion; a trigger guard undercut and beaver tail that promote a high grip for better control; a magazine release scallop for easy access; and a universal-pattern accessory rail for use with a variety of lights and lasers.”

Additional. IMO it is probably not a Glock killer. Put a Canik level trigger in and then maybe. Is it a ZEV killer? Quite possibly…..at less than half the price, in some cases a third, it does scratch that modularity itch. With Glock mags. For me, I would not touch a OZ9 at current prices after seeing this.
I checked it out yesterday and found it to be quite sweet. It is odd that they didn’t make it Gen 5 ambi-like as I don’t think it would have cost much more and the added functionality would be helpful to some. Still, the sights, slide serrations, and optic cut are all great. The trigger is at least as good as one of Gaston’s and the grip feels outstanding. For about $400, I will buy it. Time will tell if it shoots and carries well, and handles the more than 250k rounds and 36 years and counting of being mistreated like my first Glock.
Tell me it takes Glock mags.
LOL
It does
The last new ruger pistol i bought was the sr45. It’s the biggest POS pistol I own. The slide stop never really worked, I sent it back to ruger to be fixed and when I got it back it still doesn’t work. I can’t even sell a pistol that isn’t fully functional. No more new ruger pistols for me.
Another Glock clone. I’m guessing the trigger is glockish as well. What happened to innovation? Anybody else care about better triggers? The best I’ve seen in similar pistol designs is the Canik series of pistols, especially the Canik TTI. Shooting fundamentals—tactical or target require trigger control, a task made much more difficult by Glock style triggers.
How did you make a Glock 19 with a SIG-like fire control insert? This is freaking genius. Now we need an alternate frame with a little fold-out pistol brace to make this even more bad-ass.
Not fully ambidextrous. The Echelon 4.0C is a better gun!
Agreed. That’s what you get for twice the price.
