A 38-year-old man was shot and killed by Rochester police on July 31 after pulling a handgun on officers and refusing repeated commands to drop it.
The whole thing started around 5:23 p.m. when a caller reported a suspicious man in red clothing wandering door to door near Ernestine Street and even walking onto someone’s deck.
Two hours later, more calls started coming in—same guy, same neighborhood, still acting strange.
At 7:26 p.m., someone on nearby Milton Street said the man tried to get into a car that was occupied and parked in a driveway. A few minutes later, another call reported him sitting on the hood of a car.

Officers rolled up at 7:36 p.m. and found the suspect—later ID’d as Akintunde Campbell—near 33 Ernestine Street.
One officer tried to physically stop him from leaving, but Campbell knocked the officer down and kept walking. Cops tried to engage, but seconds later, Campbell turned around, reached into his hoodie, and pulled out a handgun.
Officers gave multiple clear commands to drop the weapon. Campbell didn’t. Both officers fired, striking him multiple times.
They immediately began rendering aid until EMS arrived, but Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police recovered a 9mm handgun, fully loaded with 13 rounds, from his body.
This wasn’t a case of a cellphone or a mistaken object—he pulled a loaded gun. It appears, based on the footage, that officers did what they had to do. No one else was hurt, and no bystanders were harmed.
The case is under investigation, but based on the facts released so far, the officers responded with measured force against a real threat. What say you?

I don’t know man, this looked pretty cut and dried to me. When that idiot pulled out that gun he sealed his fate. This isn’t like the movies, if cops deploy deadly force they’re not going to shoot you one time and wait on you to capitulate, they are going to mag-dump on your arse to make sure you are dead, or at least no longer a threat. Home-boy apparently had a death wish and the officers just help him on his journey.
