Newsom Signs Glock Ban, Two More Anti-Gun Bills

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

California just did it again. While most of America was watching baseball, Gov. Gavin Newsom quietly signed three major gun control bills late Friday—one of which effectively bans all Glock pistols from being sold in the state.

William Kirk, President of Washington Gun Law, broke down the trio of new laws in his latest update, calling them part of an ongoing “civilian disarmament campaign” that’s turning California into a test lab for national gun restrictions.

If you think “that could never happen here,” think again.

AB 1127 – The “Glock Ban” Bill

This is the headline grabber. Starting January 1, 2026, California will ban the sale of all Glock handguns—and any Glock-style pistol that uses a cruciform trigger bar.

The bill, AB 1127, targets guns that could theoretically be “readily converted” into machine guns using an illegal “Glock switch.” In practice, that means almost every Glock model and its clones from companies like Shadow Systems and Polymer80 are off the table.

As Kirk put it, the law criminalizes legal guns because of illegal accessories:

“They want to ban a perfectly legal firearm because somebody else makes an illegal item, illegally imports it, and illegally uses it.”

Unless Glock completely redesigns its pistols—or this law gets struck down in court—California dealers will be done selling Glocks by 2026.

SB 704 – Background Checks for Barrels

Next up is SB 704, another bureaucratic gem that takes effect July 1, 2027. This law says you can’t just buy a barrel and have it shipped to your door anymore.

Instead, you’ll have to:

  • Send it to an FFL
  • Pass a background check, and
  • Pay a new state-imposed fee

So now even a basic parts order turns into a background check and an added tax. Kirk joked that it’s hard to imagine how many lives this “saves,” but easy to see how much it costs gun owners.

AB 1078 – Quotas, Carry Bans, and One Small Silver Lining

Finally, AB 1078 adds more restrictions wrapped in feel-good language.

Here’s what’s inside:

  • Limits purchases to three firearms per month
  • Expands “sensitive places” where carry is banned—including all public transportation
  • Tweaks restraining order laws so a temporary order alone no longer automatically disqualifies carry applicants

But surprisingly, there’s a small win: starting July 1, 2026, out-of-state residents will have a clearer process to apply for a California CCW permit. Ironically, it might soon be easier for outsiders to get one than for Californians themselves.

When These Laws Hit

  • AB 1127 (Glock Ban): January 1, 2026
  • AB 1078 (New restrictions): July 1, 2027 — with the out-of-state CCW rule starting January 1, 2026
  • SB 704 (Barrel Background Checks): July 1, 2027

Kirk’s takeaway?

“If you’re in the market for a Glock or Glock-style handgun, now might be the time.”

Lawsuits are inevitable—and likely already being drafted. California’s latest spree of restrictions will face major Bruen-based challenges, but until courts step in, these laws remain the roadmap for anti-gun states nationwide.

Kirk closed with a familiar reminder to his viewers:

“Part of being a lawful and responsible gun owner is knowing what the law is—and how it applies to you.”

So whether you’re in California or not—pay attention, because what happens there has a way of spreading fast.

Glock should immediately stop selling firearms and end any & all support (repairs/service/upgrades) to all law enforcement agencies throughout the entire state of California. Make them all fork out the money to replace their sidearms because of this idiot & see how much support he gets in the next election.

Of course Glock won’t do that because of money, but it would be awesome if they actually did. Every other firearm manufacturer should also refuse to supply any L.E. agency with firearms because of California’s asinine laws, but again they won’t because of the almighty $.
    Piss on California & Gavin!

Hopefully by signing these ridiculous so called laws this sleazy political hack has just ended any chance of running for or becoming what he wants, to be the president of our country. It’s now time for all of the gun owners, collectors, competitors, shooters, guys with CCW’s, folks that have a gun for there own protection, home or business to get busy making sure once and for all that this anti gun anti American type has no chance of any election to any more offices in this country. Our Country not his…….

Well if there’s a bright side to this it’s that every time one of these commie dictator wannabes signs a law like this it means it’ll eventually be struck down by the lower courts or make it to the supreme court. At some point, the supreme court has got to not only strike down these unconstitutional laws but also get tired of hearing cases that are clearly unconstitutional under their previous rulings and finally drop a nuclear bomb ruling to make it almost impossible for states to pass laws like this to begin with or face serious repercussions. In theory anyway, I’ve lost all faith in the supreme court to be honest. It doesn’t matter what they say because rogue cities and states just ignore them and continue passing unconstitutional laws with no fear of being held responsible.

I have ZERO sympathy for ANYONE living in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornistan, even for my own family members that live there. WHY? Because as the ‘ol saying goes; “you get what you pay for” – or vote on. You voted these ass-holes into office, you have no right to complain about the aftermath.

My own family bitches about all the shit the Newscum is doing but when you ask who they voted for, they get defensive. Yes – dumbocrats…🙄

I served on a submarine, have my CDL, Hazmat, TWIC, CCW, all licences and permits needed to live in California, but after my last renew of CCW and the new laws in California basically outlawing carrying anywhere there is people, including parking lots, and empty land owned by a school, all parks and city properties which is serviced by parks and rec. are banned! Changed laws in which one of my pistols was removed from my CCW after years of being legal, we are done! I will never stop carrying, but my gun club had a meeting on if we stop getting our CCW and carry anyways. They also removed the option for a husband and wife to both have shared pistols on both permits, so my wife and I bought 3 more pistols for me! Guess ill just slash someones throat instead when in a “sensitive area”, and put my S&W 500 mag on my licence that would sever a thugs head like a watermelon.

Why do we have the 2nd amendment when these dipshitt
States are still banning guns and whatever. Maybe California needs their entire funding canceled.

Newscum is just previewing in CA what he would love to do if elected to POTUS. Be aware America if you think the Joker is good for the country. The clown has never seen a gun law he doesn’t like. Talk about acting like a king.

Rather like banning sale of chevys because turbo and nitrous kits are available. And banning hondas because red and blue lights can be bought and fitted.

Think about it, the only people from out of state that newsom wants to come in and have easy access are antifa, and now he’s making it easier for them to be armed.

with that thinking any semi auto can be modified to full auto, so next ban all semi’s. next would be revolvers because you can “fan” them and fire more than one rd with a single trigger pul!
out of state people should just stay away, i can see several loopholes to screw those people over!
why not just start arresting and punishing the criminals, would be the only way to save lives.
