Whacky and Wild: Most Unique Guns, Gear — NRA 2025

in News

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Not every product at NRA 2025 was about tight groupings and tactical precision—some were just plain weird, wild, or wonderfully outside the box.

Here’s a roundup of the most unconventional gear we spotted on the show floor.

Waffen Tactical Vector Fan-Cooled Handguard

It’s not sci-fi—it’s a fan-cooled AR handguard. The Vector system pumps 50 CFM of air through your rail, cooling suppressors and barrels mid-string. Originally designed for prairie dog shooters battling mirage, it’s now a full kit available to civilians.

A bit bulky? Sure. But undeniably inventive.

Occufi’s Smart Gun Locks and Beacon Alerts

Occufi’s rolled out some seriously smart tech—Bluetooth beacons that alert you when your gun moves, a biometric rail lock that holds your slide open until fingerprinted, and even a one-touch mobile SOS button that uses cell towers to blast out alerts and GPS.

Affordable, simple, and potentially lifesaving.

Rock River Arms .380 AR SBR

An AR-style SBR chambered in .380 ACP? Yes, it exists. Designed for export but now available stateside, this retro-style carry-handle AR answers a question no one was asking—until now.

Dark Mountain Stowaway Survival Platform

Single-shot survival rifles aren’t new, but the Dark Mountain “Stowaway” takes the concept to a new level. Foldable, takedown-friendly, and capable of caliber swaps between 9mm and 5.7, it’s slick, weirdly ergonomic, and actually kind of awesome.

Seecamp’s Micro Pistols

The smallest guns at the show? That’d be the CC Camp pistols—tiny double-action-only .32 or .380 handguns with no sights and a minimalist vibe. If you’re looking to carry a gun in your sock, this might be it.

Thompson Auto-Ordnance ‘Gamer Gun’

Only 25 were made, and they’re pure video game fantasy. Chain accents, “Please Stand By” etching, and distressed furniture give this limited-run .45 ACP Thompson a vibe that’s turning heads—even if you’ll never fire it.

Mossberg 990 Aftershock

Part 940, part “other firearm,” the Aftershock is a semi-auto 14.75-inch barreled beast with laser-ready M-LOK, upgraded controls, and recoil management that defies its compact size. It’s one of the show’s most fun shotguns—no tax stamp required.

Greenlight Sights’ “Go-When-Green” Dot

A vertical alignment sight that turns green when lined up? That’s the Greenlight concept—fast acquisition over precision. Designed for close-quarters or red-dot training aid, it’s weird, but potentially brilliant for newer shooters.

Breek Arms Short-Catch Sledgehammer Charging Handle

They shortened the ambi latch to keep it from stabbing your chest—while keeping the gas-deflecting, face-saving design of the original Sledgehammer. Small tweak, smart idea.

The Integral Suppressed TAO-50 .50 BMG

A bolt-action .50 cal with a massive integral suppressor? Yes, and it was featured on Reacher. Using AR furniture and roller action, the TAO-50 is absurdly heavy but reportedly recoils like a .308. Definitely cool. Definitely not hiking-friendly.

Rossi Brawler in 300 Blackout

A break-action, single-shot 300 Blackout pistol with a 9-inch barrel? Yep. Threaded for a can and packing a punch, the Brawler’s absurd simplicity somehow works.

R95 Triple Black Pistol

This lever-action pistol looks like someone cut down a hunting rifle and added attitude. Available in .45-70 and .357, it’s made to be suppressed and slung—not for the faint of wrist.

Yeah, I gave those booths a quick look and quickly realized they were either ridiculous, ridiculously priced or both and didn’t waste anymore time there.

Decades ago when the demand for Seecamp .32’s was high, I tried to find one on GB but never could. Too expensive! So I ended up buying two NAA Guardian’s – a .32 and a .380 – for what one Seecamp cost, and still have them. Back then that was about as close as you could come to a Seecamp without actually owning one. I sent the .380 in to NAA and had them de-horn it. I’ve been carrying that ‘back-up to my back-up’ ever since. Very reliable!

It’s great to see them back in production again with a price comparable to the Guardian!
