A Halloween night confrontation in Cockeysville, Maryland, ended with one masked man dead and two others wounded after police say a homeowner opened fire in his driveway.

Those of you who carry a revolver — how do you think you would’ve handled this situation? Would five or six rounds been enought?

According to WJZ/CBS Baltimore, officers responded to the 10000 block of Greenside Drive around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The homeowner told investigators he was sitting in his driveway when three men wearing masks approached and threatened him. Police said the group was armed with a handgun.

Faced with three masked men on his property, the homeowner reportedly drew his own firearm and opened fire. The men fled, and the homeowner immediately called 911.

Officers searching the neighborhood found one of the men dead a short distance away. Police identified him as 20-year-old Amon Walker.

The two other men later arrived at local hospitals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. Police subsequently located both men, but their names and conditions have not been released.

Investigators also recovered a loaded handgun they believe belonged to the group.

One neighbor told WJZ that a vehicle sped away shortly before residents heard several popping sounds. The neighbor described the incident as particularly frightening because it occurred on Halloween, although most neighborhood families had reportedly finished trick-or-treating by then.

Baltimore County Police said there is no continuing threat to the community. The department’s Homicide Unit is investigating what led to the confrontation and whether the homeowner knew any of the men.

As of Monday morning, police had not announced any charges against the homeowner or the surviving suspects. The homeowner has also not been publicly identified.

On the surface, this has the markings of a defensive gun use: three masked men, an alleged threat, a recovered handgun and a resident defending himself on his own property. Still, detectives will have to sort through the evidence before prosecutors make any final decisions.

Self-defense doesn’t end when the threat goes down. That’s when the real battle begins. Lawyers. Prosecutors. Headlines. USCCA Members never fight that battle alone. Find out how.
