Country star Riley Green will not be shopping in the meat aisle anytime soon.
Green recently traded the stage for Utah’s mountains and returned with an impressive bull elk. Better yet, he got it done with a compound bow.
“Freezer is full,” Green wrote on Instagram. “Not many things challenge you like bow hunting elk.”
Green said he was thankful for several days in the mountains. He also celebrated putting everything together on an “awesome bull.”
OutKick first highlighted the hunt and Green’s photos.
A Serious Utah Bull
The photos show Green posing with a mature bull carrying a wide, heavy rack.
Green also shared part of the pack-out process. That is often where the real work begins.
A mature bull elk can provide hundreds of pounds of meat. Breaking one down and carrying it through mountain terrain is no small job.
Neither Green’s post nor the OutKick report provided an official antler score. The hunting unit and shot distance also remained undisclosed.
Still, the photos leave little doubt that Green connected on an exceptional animal.
No Stranger to Bowhunting
The successful hunt should not surprise anyone familiar with Green’s life away from country music.
The Alabama native is a longtime hunter and dedicated bowhunter. He has appeared as a guest host on “Major League Bowhunter.”
The show previously followed Green during a Montana elk hunt titled “3rd Times A Charm.”

Green has also discussed the difficulty of scheduling elk hunts around touring. Archery seasons are short, while locating and approaching elk can consume several days.
This time, he had enough time to make it happen.
Filling the Freezer the Hard Way
Bowhunting elk requires hunters to enter an animal’s close-range comfort zone.
Elk possess sharp hearing, strong noses and an impressive ability to disappear into rough country. The hunter must then make a clean shot under pressure.
Green managed to assemble all those pieces during his Utah trip.
He also joins fellow country star Luke Combs in finding recent elk success in Utah. Combs reportedly began his hunt with a bow before switching to a rifle.
Green stuck with the compound bow and brought home a freezer full of meat. That is a pretty strong encore, even without a guitar.
