Canada’s federal government has once again expanded its firearm ban, adding 179 more models to its growing list of prohibited firearms.
With this latest move, the government is pushing closer to an outright civilian disarmament, continuing its crackdown on legally owned firearms under the guise of “public safety.”

The Ongoing Ban: A Slippery Slope
Since May 2020, Canada has systematically banned over 2,500 types of firearms, labeling them “weapons of war” despite the fact that many of them are semi-automatic civilian models with no military application.
The latest expansion includes historic firearms like the M-1 Carbine and the Tokarev SVT, both popular collector’s items.
Rachel Bendayan, Canada’s Associate Minister of Public Safety, defended the ban, claiming:
“This prohibition takes effect immediately. It is our hope, our government’s intention, that this be the last discreet listing of assault-style firearms for prohibition. Firearms meant for the battlefield should never see the light of day on our streets.”
This rhetoric completely ignores the fact that Canadian gun owners are among the most heavily vetted citizens in the country and that these bans target legally owned firearms, not criminals.
Handgun Freeze and Market Destruction
In 2022, Canada passed legislation to freeze the handgun market, banning the sale, transfer, and importation of handguns.
Now, with semi-auto rifles being wiped from the market, legal firearm ownership in Canada is heading toward complete eradication.

The government is also reviewing firearm classifications, which could mean even more bans and restrictions in the near future.
At this rate, only a handful of semi-automatic centerfire rifles—like the M1 Garand and SKS—remain available.
The Truth About “Gun Control” in Canada
Despite the government’s claims, these bans do nothing to stop criminals. Canada already has some of the strictest gun laws in the world, yet violent crime continues to rise.
Meanwhile, law-abiding gun owners are being stripped of their rights while the government fails to address actual sources of crime—such as gang violence and illegal smuggling.

Actually, the Constitution does say it matters. There are a lot of folks who, while not constituting a majority, do NOT vote Blue. There’s your proof right there that no firearm will ever be safe. Everything from mini-guns to match locks are “weapons of war”. That double barrel shotgun your granddad left you? Was a weapon of war. Flintlock rifles? Yep. Cap and ball revolvers? Those too. Once the government can label any gun as a “weapon of war” you’ve lost. This is exactly what gun rights advocates have been warning us about. Your bolt action hunting rifle is a “weapon of war”. Your shotguns, your lever action rifles, your single action revolvers and everything else many Fudds deemed safe from legislation are considered “weapons of war”. When you give an inch, those who don’t want you armed at all will take everything. I remember reading many Canadian Fudds posts that semi auto weapons aren’t necessary and they were okay with them being banned. Ten years later they banned pump shotguns and lever action rifles leaving those same Fudds demanding they be unbanned. Fortunately for them the native First Nations people also stepped in and with that number of opposition the government relented and re-allowed those type weapons. Granted it’s temporary, they are coming for them and next time they will be successful simply because Canada is contaminated with a large majority of liberals compared to conservatives and the fact that many Canadian”conservatives” are what we call liberal here in the states.
There is already blood on the hands of Canadian liberals from citizens mauled by bears due to restrictions/bans on carrying firearms in much of the most dangerous parts of Canada.
