A California mother’s instinct to protect her family turned into dramatic surveillance video when she rammed her SUV into what turned out to be suspected burglars’ getaway car, after learning her children were inside the home being targeted.
NBC4 Los Angeles aired footage showing the moment the woman’s Mercedes-Benz hit the parked sedan as the burglars fled, sparking widespread attention on the risks Americans face when seconds count and help is minutes away.

“I was in panic. I was in shock.”
According to the report, the woman had stepped out to get coffee while her three young children and their grandmother were at the house in Sherman Oaks. Moments later, she received a panicked call from her mother, who was inside the home.
“I see the guys and I was in panic. I was in shock, you know?” the woman told the news crew about her reaction as she rushed back and hit the SUV parked outside.
Surveillance video shows the SUV plow into the sedan just as multiple suspects ran from the area. Police later found items in the damaged vehicle consistent with attempted burglary. Including a wallet, a crowbar, and a walkie-talkie, though at least at last reports, no arrests had been announced.
If she had a better option…
What wasn’t captured on camera — and what the NBC report notably glossed over — is the reason this mother’s only defensive tool was her vehicle.
In a moment of terror, she resorted to ramming a car because she had no immediate lawful way to stop a threat to her children. There was no mention in the report of any firearm, pepper spray, or other defensive tool.

Let’s call it what it was: the only tool available to a law-abiding parent in a crisis.
And her reaction, driving into a potential threat, isn’t irrational. When a loved one is in danger, instinct drives action. But wouldn’t we prefer that action be effective?
Seconds matter. Police are minutes away.
This incident underscores a reality too many families know:
- Criminals decide when they strike.
- Police respond after the fact.
- Parents are left with whatever tools they have at hand.
In this case, that tool was a luxury SUV.
Would the outcome have been different if this mother wasn’t defenseless under California’s restrictive self-defense environment? Would the burglars have paused if faced with an armed, prepared homeowner instead of a terrified parent barreling down the street?
These may be uncomfortable questions to some. But they’re grounded in the facts of this event, not in spin. The NBC report didn’t make them for her, but her actions did.
Because in that split second, she didn’t choose panic. She chose to act.
And her parting message to those burglars? “Next time,” she said, “I’m going to kill them.

She did not ram on purpose she said on local news that she lost control, that is why she just scratched burglars car and total her g-class into concrete wall
That is a reach…
Isn’t this about the same as shooting them in the back while they are running away? They were leaving , in fact they were out of the residence. She nor her family were not in danger any longer. I wonder if the crooks will make an insurance claim?
i’m betting she will face traffic violations and the insurance company won’t pay to get her mercedes fixed.
How is it the same? The burglars were not injured.
The Peoples Republic of Kalifornistan doesn’t want you to be able to protect yourself or family. Legal gun ownership is restricted and difficult, and heaven forbid ever using it. You’re almost guaranteed to end up in jail afterwards, regardless of the circumstances, and put through sever mental stress and financial devastation afterwards.
Even if those turds were caught, no doubt the DA and their revolving-door justice system would have them back out on the streets before the ink dried on the arrest papers. No wonder people are leaving like rats fleeing a sinking garbage scowl. Same with the now communist-ran NYC.
Give me a break. Do you live in California? I do and gun ownership is not “difficult.” I wish it was easier and I could buy what I want. Your hyperbole is simply ignorant. Your statements about California are inconsistent with how communism actually works i.e., the justice system.
LJ’s comments are not far off, and I’m a lifelong California resident.
So you’re advocating for communism … I rest my case.🙄
I’m all for our right to protect ourselves, but the article is skewed! California has strict gun laws, but it is a SHALL ISSUE State. Meaning, if you apply you will be issued a CCW permit as long as you meet the requirements. Also, if they were leaving the scene when she arrived, even if she had a firearm she could not legally shoot them. That’d be the law in all 50 states except MAYBE Texas!
You sir are wrong, try moving to LA and getting a CCW. Some county’s just opened up. In the past, you either had to have a job to require one, or know someone. Which is still the case for LA. LA loves criminals and she will probably be arrested. CA is awful.
No Chuck… You are wrong. According to the modern law in Los Angeles, it’s a simple as doing the permitting process. He wasn’t talking about the past we’re talking about now. Just because you were someone you know had problems getting one doesn’t mean it’s that difficult or impossible for everyone

if she was armed some of those criminals wouldn’t be on the streets right now!
They were leaving and on the street, she would’ve had no reason to shoot them so she would probably be in jail or at least under indictment.
And neither would she.
that kind of thinking is exactly why the criminal’s always win!
Agreed. But that is not my thinking. It’s the concept of matching the level of response to the level of provocation. And if she shot them leaving in their car she’d be in jail. And she may well lose if the owners of that rammed car take her to court.
