Best Beretta Pistols (2026): APX, 80X, PX4 & More

in GA Guides, Handguns, Pistols

The best Beretta pistols go well beyond the 92. The world’s oldest gun maker also builds modern striker-fired APX pistols, the PX4 Storm, a revived Cheetah in .380, and tip-up pocket guns in .22 LR and .32 ACP. Some are bargains, some are classics, and a few are better left to collectors. We will tell you which is which.

Our writers have shot most of the current lineup. We ran an APX A1 Comp Tac for 350 rounds without a malfunction, put the 80X Cheetah head to head with the Girsan MC14T, shot the new 20X side by side with two older 21A Bobcats, and carried an APX Carry. We have also tested the APX A1 Compact, the PX4 Storm, the 3032 Tomcat, and the Nano, including one that broke and went back for warranty repair.

This guide covers Beretta’s non-92 pistols. The 92FS, M9A4, 92X, and the rest of that family have their own guide, our best Beretta 92 pistols roundup, so we do not repeat them here. Every price below is labeled with when we saw it.

If you are still deciding, start with the buyer’s guide. If you know what you want, jump to the picks.

Buyer’s Guide: How To Choose The Best Beretta Pistols In 2026

Beretta’s pistols fall into a few distinct families. Here is how to pick.

Striker Or Hammer

The APX family is striker fired, with a consistent pull every shot. The PX4 Storm, 80X Cheetah, 20X Bobcat, and Tomcat are double action/single action hammer guns. DA/SA means a long, heavy first pull and lighter follow-ups. Our PX4 measured 8.5 pounds double action and 4.5 pounds single action. If DA/SA appeals to you, our DA/SA subcompacts guide covers rivals.

Where Is The Beretta 92?

The 92 is the most famous Beretta pistol, and it deserves its own guide. If you want an all-steel 92FS, an M9A4, a compact 92, or a 92X Performance, go to our best Beretta 92 pistols roundup. The pistols below are for shooters who want something smaller, lighter, cheaper, or newer.

Size And Capacity

The APX A1 Compact and Comp Tac hold 15 rounds. The APX Carry and Nano are slim single stacks holding 6 or more rounds. The 80X Cheetah holds 13 rounds of .380 ACP in a mid-size frame. The 20X and Tomcat are true pocket guns. Match the size to how you will carry.

Tip-Up Barrels

The 20X Bobcat and Tomcat use Beretta’s tip-up barrel, which lets you load the chamber without racking the slide. That helps shooters with weak hands. The tradeoff is that they have no extractor, so malfunctions are complicated and slow to clear. The 80X does have an extractor, which our reviewer counted as a big advantage over tip-up designs.

Optics Ready

The APX A1 Compact, APX A1 Comp Tac, and 80X Cheetah have optics-ready slides. Beretta offered five optic kit options for the APX A1 Compact. Our APX full-size and compact field test also covered the earlier APX RDO, which listed at $725 with mounting plates in 2018.

Price

Beretta’s modern pistols are priced lower than many expect. The APX A1 Compact listed at $449 and the APX A1 Comp Tac at $550 at the time of review in 2024. The PX4 Storm in .40 S&W listed at $650 in 2016. The Nano listed at $475 with street prices near $400 in 2013.

He measured the double-action pull at 8.5 pounds and single action at 4.5 pounds. He was still waiting on his first part failure and was running the original factory springs. The Beretta 20X Bobcat is the best Beretta .22 pocket pistol because it fixes most of the old 21A’s reliability drama. Our reviewer owns two 21As and said neither is reliable enough for defensive use. The 20X proved extremely reliable after a break-in of 150 to 200 rounds, with a few light strikes and failures to cycle inside that window.

Read our full Beretta 20X vs 21A Bobcat review here.
