The process could not be simpler. Everything you need comes with each UTM kit available at their web store.
UTM offers a wide range of kits for popular service weapons including pistols and rifle from major manufacturers such as Beretta, Colt, Heckler & Koch, Glock, SIG Sauer and Smith & Wesson. The kits come with everything necessary to get started and only require a field-strip to install. Depending on the model it may come with a complete upper assembly or it may just require a barrel and spring change.
I was told that your initial supply of ammunition and a backstop–to avoid damaging drywall shooting at home–is included with every conversion kit.
I had the opportunity to fire their kit on a Glock 17. The gun cycled and recoiled as expected, with the noise report being quite low and requiring no ear protection. The accuracy was amazing to me; it was much better than airsoft. Just like in real practice, the instant that you fail to correctly manipulate the trigger it is exposed on the target.
I didn’t get a chance to chronograph any of these rounds, but I was told that they are traveling at about 375 feet per second. Without getting technical, UTM uses a proprietary method that involves two ignitions versus the typical single ignition on other rounds. What this means is that consistency velocity is maintained on every round fired with enough energy to cycle the slide, without the projectile reaching velocities that can puncture the skin.
Before I had the opportunity to try this product out on the range I was skeptical, but now I’m anxious to get a conversion kit for one of my guns and see how this can help my winter practice.
