The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) is applauding President Donald Trump’s recent effort to overhaul Washington, D.C.’s gun permit system.
The change is part of the administration’s broader “Making DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force,” which aims to restore order in a city battling violent crime.
Until now, residents in the capital faced months-long waits just to register a firearm or apply for a concealed carry permit. In some cases, the delay stretched to four months or more, effectively keeping citizens disarmed and defenseless.
The new system cuts that wait to only a few days, as Fox News reported.
Residents can now schedule next-day appointments with the Metropolitan Police Department, and even walk-in registration opportunities are being advertised online.
CCRKBA views this shift as a major victory for law-abiding gun owners who have long been stymied by D.C.’s notoriously hostile attitude toward the Second Amendment.

For decades, city officials have imposed deliberate delays and bureaucratic hurdles that acted as backdoor restrictions on gun rights. Advocates say these tactics put lives at risk by preventing citizens from exercising their right to self-defense.
By moving quickly to streamline the process, the Trump administration is signaling a new direction. Instead of slow-walking applications, the government is recognizing that honest citizens need timely access to firearms if they are to protect themselves and their families.
Supporters also argue that public safety depends on empowering residents to fight back against criminals, not leaving them vulnerable while waiting months for paperwork.
The move sends a strong message in the heart of the nation’s capital: constitutional rights cannot be buried under red tape.
CCRKBA has urged D.C. officials to embrace this shift, stressing that the Second Amendment is not optional — and that no American, least of all those living where the government itself resides, should be blocked from exercising it.
With this change, D.C. residents now have a real chance to lawfully arm themselves without government obstruction, marking a sharp break from the city’s restrictive past.

Not enough. The Constitution has no provisions for waiting periods or permits to purchase and own firearms. Those need to be banned. I do believe in the background check as it has proven to be fairly effective on stopping those who have a criminal record from purchasing through a legal channel. I know it doesn’t stop someone from stealing, or getting a firearm from other illegal means, but it does help some.
This is one of the few times I agreed with Trump but not for the reason you might think. Citizens are at risk because the criminals and lunatics can get guns instantly and faster than they can buy a hamburger at a fast food place. Why? Because we do not vet all second hand gun purchases and foolish Red States with lax gun laws via the “iron highway” bring in thousands of unvetted second hand guns into Northern States with tough gun laws making their tough gun laws useless because of the black market sale of used unvetted guns.
If what you are saying is true, then you must have bought several used hamburgers over the years. What’s the count?
