Third Echelon has taken a bold leap in attempting to make a dual bore suppressor for Bond’s 9mm derringer. Instead of relying on a removable mount, this design integrates directly with a proprietary barrel developed by Bond.

Wipe Baffle System

The four-chamber suppressor uses three sets of wipes.

This suppressor uses a wipe-based baffel system. Two removable pins retain the wipes inside the body, and the wipes seal each chamber as the bullet passes through. That sealing effect optimizes sound reduction while keeping the overall length short (just over 4”).

The housing is constructed of 7075 aluminum and bolted directly to the pistol’s muzzle. The suppressor stays fixed to the barrel, so users do not need to worry about the suppressor’s bores becoming misaligned with the double barrels during shooting.

Third Echelon explained that the wipes are easily replaceable by the user. The company plans to offer a pre-stensiled mat of the wipe material so users can easily manufacture their own replacement wipes as needed.

There are two distinct bullet paths through the suppressor; one for each barrel.

Sound Performance and Shot Count

Bond Arms compared the first ten shots (out of each barrel) to a full-size 9mm suppressor and reported slightly lower sound output during those initial rounds. After roughly twenty shots, performance levels settle closer to that of a standard full-size pistol suppressor, which typically runs at nearly double the length.

This drop-off in efficiency is expected as the wipes wear. The design prioritizes low round count efficiency rather than sustained fire.

The outer sleeve is the serialized portion, so the internals can be more easily repaired if ever damaged.

Caliber Options

The suppressor currently supports 9mm, but Third Echelon confirmed a .45 ACP version is in development. That variant will use a square profile suppressor to maintain proper bullet clearance between wipes while preserving structural strength.

Third Echelon has not finalized pricing. The company stated it aims to keep the complete system under $1,000. That price would include the suppressor and pistol as a complete unit, and they expect to have the 9mm version ready to ship in the next few months.

Be sure to keep an eye on the Third Echelon Development website for when they add the suppressed derringer.
