Police in Texarkana, Texas are investigating a deadly early-morning shooting that left a teenage boy dead following what authorities believe was an attempted car burglary.

According to KSLA News 12, officers responded to a possible burglary-in-progress call early Tuesday morning. When police arrived, they found a gunshot victim later identified as a teenage male believed to be around 15 years old.

Investigators say at least two individuals were allegedly attempting to break into a vehicle when they were confronted by a homeowner. At some point during that encounter, the homeowner fired a shot, striking one of the suspected burglars. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Texarkana Police Department spokesperson Shawn Vaughn said another suspect, or possibly multiple suspects, fled the scene following the shooting. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities have not said whether the teen who was killed was directly involved in the attempted burglary, nor have they announced whether the homeowner will face charges.

Vaughn said police are still determining what happened and what next steps may be appropriate once the investigation is complete.

As of the latest update, no arrests have been made.
