Last year I had an itch to start shooting a new division in Steel Challenge. I specifically wanted to shoot in Rimfire Pistol Open aka RFPO. At the time, the Ruger Mark IV pistols were going for $800 and up. Not wanting to spend that much, I started looking at other options and was intrigued when I came across the newly released Taurus TX22 Competition.

The great thing about modern production pistols is the ability to plug and play or mix and match. Taurus recently announced the newest G3 pistol at the 2022 SHOT Show. The G3x combines the full-size frame of the G3 with the short slide of the G3c. I received one of the new models a week before its announcement at SHOT Show.

Chambered for 9mm Luger, the G3XL combines a compact frame with a full-size slide for a longer sight radius, improved practical accuracy and greater muzzle velocities.

Taurus unveiled a host of new handguns at SHOT Show 2022, and the new G3X and TX 22 Competition SCR were two of the most exciting.

Taking cues from their hardcore revolver fans, the handgun company is expanding its 605 line of .357 Mag. revolvers to include three-inch barrels and adding the .327 Federal Magnum cartridge to its 856 series.

Taurus is following up on their latest hit, the GX4 micro-compact pistol for concealed carry, with the GX4 TORO, an optics-ready model compatible with a range of popular mini red dot sights.
