As so often happens when stalking pronghorn antelope, failure comes before success. I was hunting on the vast Crow Reservation in southeast Montana – an area that defines big, open country with little stalking cover – and had already blown one attempt when a previously unseen band of pronghorn materialized and spooked the herd I was stalking.

Montana Tough: Franchi’s Momentum Elite Varmint Rifle – Full Review
BY Mike Dickerson Updated: August 3, 2024Henry’s Magnum Express Delivers Maximum Rimfire Punch for Hunters
BY Mike Dickerson Updated: August 3, 2024Even at a quick glance, it’s immediately obvious to lever gun fans that there’s something different about the new Henry Magnum Express rifle, which is chambered in .22 WMR. The rifle is entirely devoid of fixed sights. While that may seem to be a sacrilegious omission to some, it’s entirely by design. The Magnum Express is specifically designed to be used with optics, and that’s a big plus for those who like to hunt small game or dispatch varmints with the most potent .22 rimfire cartridge, or those with aging eyes that don’t work so well with iron sights.
The 10/22 Ruger Should Be Making: The Winchester Wildcat 22 LR
BY CitizenHush Updated: November 6, 2021The Wildcat 22 packs an incredible amount of features into a sub-$300 price point. I’ve actually bought 2 now and have sold most of my semiautomatic 22LRs. I’ve been converted by Winchester’s thoughtful design choices and recommend this rifle for new shooters and anyone looking for a feature-packed plinker without breaking the bank.
CZ’s New 557 Eclipse Delivers Solid Performance at a Reasonable Price
BY Mike Dickerson Updated: August 3, 2024CZ’s goal with the Eclipse was to distill the 557 down to its basics while retaining the same good barreled action in a package with a more affordable price tag. After putting an Eclipse chambered in 308 Win. through its paces, I would say that CZ has succeeded admirably.
DD5 V5 260 Rem: A Firing Solution for the COVID Crunch
BY Clay Martin Updated: October 3, 2021I am finally getting a review in on something I have wanted to try for a very long time, the Daniel Defense V5 in 260 Remington. Why have I been so anxious to lay hands on this rifle? Know that if it says DD on the side, it is going to be a winner.
AllTerra Arms’ Mountain Shadow Steel: The Lamborghini of Rifles?
BY Riley Baxter Updated: August 3, 2024AllTerra Arms is a semi-custom rifle manufacturer in my home state of Idaho that used to be known as “Axial Precision.” These guys produce some top-tier hunting rifles with 1/2 and even 1/4 MOA guarantees, and I finally got my hands on one. The Mountain Shadow Steel is one of their steel barreled options, and it happens to be the model that I’m testing.

World’s First Left-handed 10/22: Ruger’s 10/22 Competition Rifle Left-Handed Model
BY Levi Sim Updated: August 13, 2021This gun is a blast to use and it puts the bullets where you expect them to go, and it does it with a little touch of luxury exhibited in the precision action and fine stock.
The CA5five6 AR-15 from Christensen Arms: Workhorse Reliable but Should It Shoot Better?
BY Brian McCombie Updated: July 25, 2021The CA5five6 is a lightweight and nimble rifle that feels great on the shoulder, too. I wish I could have scored better groups with it, true, but the rifle will certainly do the job for most shooting, from plinking and home defense needs, as well as for hunting medium-sized and smaller game.
Springfield Armory Waypoint – Is it worth the Pricepoint?
BY Clay Martin Updated: July 18, 2021I will admit, I was hesitant to see what a Springfield Armory bolt action might produce when it was announced late last year. It’s not that Springfield Armory isn’t capable, it’s that the bolt action market is both finicky and saturated.
