Springfield Armory is expanding on their popular line of 1911 pistols with the new Ronin Operator. The full-size Ronin Operator will be offered in .45 ACP as well as 9mm Luger.
The Ronin is a slick-looking two-tone 1911 with a solid set of features at an approachable price point. Built on a brushed, forged stainless steel frame with a hammer-forged stainless steel barrel and blued carbon steel slide, the Ronin is meant for shooters looking for a 1911 made to last.
There is a lot of action in the 1911 market and Springfield is a go-to brand in the business, but a lot of their models carry higher price tags outside of their MIL-SPEC series. The Ronin carries a suggested retail price of $849, with likely lower pricing in stores and online.
That buys a lot of improvements over the G.I. models starting with improved white dot rear sights with a red fiber optic front sight. The slide also has front and rear serrations.
The Ronin uses a standard recoil spring assembly and has right-handed controls. It comes with an extended thumb safety and full beavertail grip safety with an extended memory pad. It has a skeletonized hammer and polymer “Speed Trigger.” Polymer triggers aren’t common with 1911s but they’re extremely common in the greater handgun world and are easy enough to replace in any case.

The frame has a flat mainspring housing with 20 line-per-inch checkering and is fit with diamond half-checkered grips bearing an engraved cross cannons logo. In .45 ACP the gun has a standard 8+1-round capacity while the 9mm holds one more for 9+1. Each Ronin will ship with one stainless steel magazine.
The Ronin series is a good-looking entry at a competitive price point and these are sure to be popular options for people shopping for a new 1911.
