About Springfield Armory®

In 1794, the original Springfield Armory was designated as our national armory by General George Washington, and began manufacturing muskets for the defense of our young, free Republic.  This monumental institution went on to serve as a think tank for developing innovative firearms concepts and producing some of the most storied rifle platforms in our country’s history.  The Armory functioned as a firearms supplier for every major American conflict until 1968 when the government sadly closed its doors. In 1974, two centuries after its inception, Springfield Armory Inc. in Geneseo, IL revived the iconic heritage of the Armory to carry on its legacy and restore the Springfield Armory name.

Springfield Armory Inc. engineers, manufactures and assembles their high-quality 1911, 911, SAINT® AR-15 and legendary M1A™ lines of firearms in Geneseo, Illinois. Since 2001, Springfield Armory has enjoyed a strategic, collaborative partnership with the state-of-the-art factory in Croatia working hand-in-hand to develop and engineer the multiple award-winning line of XD® polymer pistols that have become staples in the US marketplace. We strive to honor this responsibility as guardians of the original Springfield Armory legacy by manufacturing the highest quality firearms to enable responsible citizens to preserve their right to keep and bear arms in the defense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

With an unmatched emphasis on craftsmanship, performance and exceptional customer service, our mission is to forge superior firearms and provide the tools necessary to defend individual freedoms and equality for those who embrace the rights and principles secured by our Founding Fathers.  For more information, please visit us at: springfield-armory.com.

They’ve dropped a few clues. The web site is “fiercely defend” and the background shot is a city/urban area, with the logo, “it’s a jungle out there.” So something to the urban self defense, odds being a pistol over a rifle. With all of the time and “precision engineering,” I’d also guess something with an aluminum frame as opposed to poly. The again, they have the EMP and a 4″ EMP in 9 (and .40?), so that pretty much cuts the other direction. (One of these days I have to buy an EMP. It is on my wish list.)

“Class Leading…” think about it, hunting or long range shooting platform. Long range shooting/competition is the latest popular shooting trend. Why would they put out something in 9m that they already claim they have the best product representation of? A revolver would be cool, but I doebt it, as theres no current popular “class” to lead or better up on. More than likely its a long gun, jopefully not another AR, cause they do already have the Saint….

    • Mark N. September 8, 2019, 2:22 am

Actually a revolver is an interesting idea. It is the one and only firearm that Springfield doesn’t have in its catalogue. Revolvers having been doing fairly well in the market place. And it is a SD weapon particularly useful in the urban jungle that requires a high degree of engineering precision in order to be “class leading.”

Hmmm. Seems to fit the bill. And it could even be sold in California.

Everybody been buying single stack postols makes u think

  • Manny September 3, 2019, 8:34 pm

My money is in a XDM mod.2, maybe a pistol carbine.

  • Joey Anthony September 3, 2019, 9:29 am

As many have said, it will likely be a small striker based polymer pistol to appeal to the concealed carry market.

What I would LIKE TO see would be an all steel .380 like the Sig P230 (won’t happen) or maybe even a new revolver

  • michael September 3, 2019, 8:54 am

How I wish it would be a variant to the Henry survival rifle in 22 mag. Not likely I know. We can all wish though.

  • Chris September 3, 2019, 8:26 am

I’m so impressed with the XDm series and can only hope the Saint Series produces a 6.8 PRC for the military to look over. 20 round Mags don’t really cut it so maybe a banana clip to give 30+, who knows?
If there’s a hunting rifle out there in the mix, well I wish them luck as the market looks pretty crowded already including those cheap Mausers and even cheaper Winchesters available.

  • Caleb M Hughes September 2, 2019, 10:28 pm

My money is on a PCC in 9mm. Definitely not a hunting rifle as they are focusing on the urban aspect of the marketing

    • Dane September 3, 2019, 12:33 pm

I hope its something like the kel tec sub2k but better. Those things sell faster than bottle water in flooded city

  • Paul D Copher Jr September 2, 2019, 3:33 pm

These days all we can do is hope for the best. Maybe a return to the good old days when you could get an M 1 Garand or 1903 from Springfield so you did not have to risk your rare collectors item. Why not an M1 D? We all have our many, many variations of AR 15/AR 10/M 1A. Everyone on the line has several. Take out an HK or FN FAL or even a Shiloh Sharps or Trapdoor just to be different?

  • Evan D Marriott-Brave September 2, 2019, 3:32 pm

im betting its a hunting rifle given the whole time frame this time of year and the “class leading” part

  • Kevin M Lange September 2, 2019, 2:05 pm

Big Springfield fan, however, are we going to announce and then take forever to bring it to market like the 911 9mm?

  • Michael Monroe September 2, 2019, 1:49 pm

Looking for in stock cleaning rod, ect. For m14/ m1a1, how many rounds does it take to loosen this rifle up??

  • Evan Blankenship September 2, 2019, 12:12 pm

Who cares…its not going to be california compliant

    • Mariano Noriel September 2, 2019, 7:53 pm

People who lives outside of CA may care.

    • Matthew September 3, 2019, 1:42 am

      You’ve got it backwards lmao

No one cares about California compliant crap. Not even Glock. Stop whining and move to the US

      • Mark N. September 8, 2019, 2:18 am

The only way a pistol (revolvers being exempt) to be California compliant is to produce a gun that “microstamps” the case in two locations. Th experimental version upon which Kamala Harris based her decision to certify that the technology that the statute requires exists and is generally available only stamps a case on the primer, and only in one location. No one, I repeat NO ONE has invented the technology to mass produce a semiauto pistol that stamps a case in two locations. In fact, as far as I know, no manufacturer has done so even experimentally on a non-mass manufacturing basis. Although the California market is pretty large, it isn’t large enough, or the tech is too far fetched, to encourage anyone to meet the statutory specification.

  • John Towey September 2, 2019, 11:26 am

I’m guessing a super advanced overpriced AR10 rifle

    • Chris September 3, 2019, 8:27 am

That would be good in 6.8 and a 30+ round mag.
Maybe there’s even a laser rifle coming?

  • Rob C September 2, 2019, 11:17 am

I agree with Elton. Probably a micro subcompact to compete with the p365.

    • Ricky B. September 3, 2019, 9:43 am

Agreed! I really hope they make this same change (i.e. slim down a double stack mag to fit a single stack slide) to the XD-E… I would definitely buy this even though I already have the XD-E in both of the calibers in which it is currently offered.

I would really like to see this done with the longer (either 3.8 or 4.5 inches) barrel in 45acp… Please Springfield, this would be the perfect CC option for me!

  • hugo September 2, 2019, 11:01 am

A higher capacity slim 9mm to compete with the Sig P365?

    • Scotty Davis September 7, 2019, 9:48 pm

I would bet it is a high round count micro 9mm that they have really tested so it will have none of the growing pains the 365 had. The CCW market it big

  • JD September 2, 2019, 10:46 am

I’ll venture out there and say they’re getting into the shotty arena. Or small semi-automatic pistols, like glock 42/42, Ruger LCP types. Yeah, I changed my mind, the pistol thing.

    • Mark N. September 2, 2019, 8:16 pm

They’ve done the pistol thing with those pocket single stack xd-s series 9s and 45s. And the 911 is a competitor to the Sign 938 and the Kimber/Mustang based handguns. So if it is a pistol, it will have to be a competitor to the Sig 356.

Not that I care, since no new pistols can make it onto the California unless they incorporate the nonexistent microstamping technology. Of the above, on the Sig P238 made it onto the roster before Kamala brought down her silver hammer six years ago.

  • Terry Kean September 2, 2019, 10:35 am

Another variant of the AR platform.

  • Mike September 2, 2019, 10:29 am

An optics ready ….. polymer framed 1911

    • Dane September 3, 2019, 12:28 pm

I thought that is what Rock River Arms was supose to do years ago

  • Earl September 2, 2019, 10:28 am

Not another 1911 ! How about a bullpup just because

  • Craig September 2, 2019, 10:22 am

    9 mm bullpup carbine

  • James Pesnell September 2, 2019, 9:58 am

Plasma rifle for the new space defense force.

  • Jeff Clark September 2, 2019, 9:33 am

🤔 my guess is something in the 1911 category. Outside the box thinking.

  • Star Elton September 2, 2019, 8:55 am

    Insert guesses here. I’ll start.

    A new striker-fired polymer 9mm

    • Jason September 2, 2019, 9:42 am

Yep…I totally agree. An answer to the P365. Go get em, Springfield! 🙂
