Full Review Coming Monday!

Springfield Armory just announced (this morning) the release of their new 9mm Micro-Compact Hellcat. The big news is that it’s tiny but still has a capacity of 11+1 with a flush-fitting magazine and 13+1 with an extended magazine.

GunsAmerica writer Ivan Loomis got to spend a day at his range with the Hellcat Optics Ready version and put it through some paces. It worked flawlessly without a single ammunition or firearm malfunction. His full review will be in the GunsAmerica Monday Digest. If you’re not subscribed, it’s free, just click HERE.

In the meantime, head over to Springfield Armory and check out the Hellcat product page.

    Thanks for the review.

  • FirstStateMark September 27, 2019, 7:17 pm

It’s got one loud trigger reset click.

  • wayne September 27, 2019, 3:38 pm

    It shore is perty.

  • Stanley Cox September 27, 2019, 8:14 am

I’ll stick with old school. Colt stainless light weight officer model. 7+1 flush mag. 10+1 extended mag. And icing on the cake it’s a 45acp. LoL

  • TheJimmy September 26, 2019, 8:49 pm

I like the Charlies Angels running with the gun up next to your head to frame your beautiful face move.

  • Roger green September 26, 2019, 8:12 pm

    What is the price?

  • firemanbob September 26, 2019, 7:19 pm

Springfield flooding the market with to much and to many, lots of quality competition out there, watch for sales drop.

  • JCitizen September 26, 2019, 3:15 pm

I’d like to trade in my .45 cal XDS for this new pistol. Not that I don’t love my XDS, but I could use the extra capacity. I was gobsmacked the first time I shot my XDS – I couldn’t believe they got that much control out of such a small pistol shooting 45 ammo! I was shooting even better than with my Dad’s issue 45 auto.

  • Mike September 26, 2019, 2:30 pm

Why announce that you have a new pistol when none of the distributors even have a sku or know what it is?

  • It's me September 26, 2019, 2:24 pm

So … it’s an XD9 with optics. Springfield makes a very good pistol, I’ve owned several. They also tend to be heavier than their competition, in a carry gun, not ideal. I don’t see anything “revolutionary” in this.

  • Christopher Malcolm September 26, 2019, 2:08 pm

From what I am hearing it’s about 500 dollars and 40 dollars more for the optics ready version.

  • Steven September 26, 2019, 2:06 pm

    MSRP is $599

  • Thad obryan September 26, 2019, 2:02 pm

Price will be 489.00give or take

  • Kevin Hinds September 26, 2019, 1:52 pm

I’ve had my Glock 23 for several years. The only thing I’ve had to do to it maintenance wise is replace the hockey tape I use on the grip. I say stick with the folks who invented and mastered the plastic gun. Too many copies, not enough improvement.

    • Scott September 26, 2019, 3:31 pm

Exactly!! I’ve had my GLOCK 26 to long to even consider anything else

    • Stuart September 26, 2019, 7:42 pm

Not a Glock fan but, I much prefer the .40 S&W to 9mm. I wonder if they are eventually going to make these in .40 S&W?

  • John Boileau September 26, 2019, 1:45 pm

They want to make sure you’re sitting down and well sedated before they disclose the price.

  • Dan September 26, 2019, 1:04 pm

Your shirt says Professional so I guess the gun is junk.

  • Shawn September 26, 2019, 12:04 pm

So, you keep “overriding” the slide lock, yet you keep using that unfortunate thumbs forward grip. Do you think you will get a different result by continuing the same conduct?

  • Dan September 26, 2019, 11:51 am

I can’t wait until the high-thumb hold goes back out of style. Thumb-raping the slide will always cause malfunctions (because your hand belongs on the grip, not the slide). Oh well – you gotta hold the gun that way these days if you want to look cool and fit in with the other armchair operator types.

    • Steven September 26, 2019, 2:05 pm

The thumb on the slide is a “barely resting” feature of this hold. If that jams the slide then either the internal spring is too weak or the thumb is pressing too hard against the slide. Never had a malfunction with this grip w even the smallest of 9MM

    • Jon September 26, 2019, 3:09 pm

You sure don’t want to use a revolver hold on a semi-auto…You will get a lot of weird looks and comments, but on the other hand, you sure don’t want to use a semi-auto hold with a revolver..you could lose a finger, or two. Paul Harrel demonstrated that with chicken legs.

    • Scotty Gunn September 26, 2019, 6:42 pm

It was big back in the seventies. Never used it. Never had a mullet, either. Did have an 8 track, though.

  • Bill September 26, 2019, 11:43 am

What do you know, another polymer pistol. Now there’s something I haven’t seen for at least 5 minutes!

    • James September 26, 2019, 12:40 pm

I agree with you Bill, but , the numbers cause me to be interested . 1 inch wide with 11+1 ? I already have 2 XDM’S and love them. My Cc is a Kahr 9 w/ 7+1. If this is the same size with only a half inch longer slide , I’m VERY interested. I don’t like the XDS’s. Grip is too skinny/short for me and the grip texture too grenade-like. AND lower capacity than my Kahr . Granted the XDS is lighter . /meh . & like Wade , i want to know price.

      • Ben September 26, 2019, 4:54 pm

I agree with you on the XDS, got rid of all mine and replaced them with XDs for the same reason. I recently purchased an M&P 9MM 2.0 compact and that has turned out to be a great weapon.

  • Wade Castille September 26, 2019, 11:43 am

I like what I see so far. The next thing is Price?

    • Roger green September 26, 2019, 12:38 pm

      What is the price?

      • Patrick McCoy September 26, 2019, 1:03 pm

I’ve read $569 and $599 MSRP. The higher price is for the pistol set up for the dot sight.

      • Tom Wilson September 26, 2019, 1:43 pm

$569 for the standard version and $599 for the OSP.

    • randy September 26, 2019, 1:09 pm
