South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden made it clear this week that the Mount Rushmore State isn’t backing down on gun rights.

During a stop at Boyd’s Gunstock in Mitchell, part of his “Open for Opportunity” tour, Rhoden signed three pro-Second Amendment bills into law—further cementing the state’s reputation as one of the most gun-friendly in the nation.

“One of my favorite things about South Dakota is how free we are – especially when it comes to the freedom to keep and bear arms,” Gov. Rhoden said during the signing.
“We have taken greater actions to defend our Second Amendment rights than any other state,” he added. “As long as I am Governor, I will continue to defend this basic constitutional freedom.”
The three bills signed are:
- SB 100 – Limits restrictions on concealed carry and other self-defense tools on public college campuses.
- HB 1218 – Addresses firearm restrictions imposed on certain employees, officers, volunteers, and others.
- HB 1222 – Expands authorized concealed carry, possession, and storage.
The signing brings Rhoden’s tally this legislative session to 157 bills signed with just one veto—highlighting a clear commitment to personal liberty, especially when it comes to firearms.
Rhoden’s bold stance sends a strong signal: as long as he’s in office, South Dakota will keep leading the charge in defending the right to bear arms.
