Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

SilencerCo S98 is a lightweight, eccentric 9mm handgun suppressor built from fully welded titanium and designed to keep sights unobstructed. The S98 has been teased for over a year, and SHOT Show 2026 marks its official public debut.

The MSRP is $1,269.

SilencerCo positions it as a modern rethink of the Osprey concept, built the way the company wanted from the start. The result is a sealed, ultra-light suppressor focused on simplicity, fast mounting, and low visual obstruction.

Overview and Design Intent

SilencerCo also built the S98 as an eccentric suppressor, meaning the bore sits below the shooter’s line of sight. That profile keeps iron sights and optics clear without tall sights or workarounds. The can is fully welded and sealed, with no user-serviceable parts.

The body uses Grade 5 titanium with 17-4 stainless steel components. It wears a Type II anodized finish that gives it a raw, understated look. The S98 weighs about 7 ounces and measures 5.54 inches long, keeping it compact for handgun use. Also, SilencerCo rates the S98 for 9mm handguns only. It is not intended for carbines or alternate calibers.

Mounting System and Compatibility

The S98 also ships with two mounting options in the box. Users get a 1/2×28 direct-thread piston and a proprietary pistol QD system. The QD setup functions like a compact three-lug-style interface with a shallow locking angle.

You push, twist, and lock the suppressor into place. A timing button allows proper alignment during setup. Once indexed, the suppressor returns to the same position every time.

Bottom button is used for timing the suppressor in the right orientation.

The included muzzle device stays low-profile. Shooters can install it on a threaded barrel and still remove the barrel on some pistols without interference. That design avoids proprietary barrels, although SilencerCo plans factory barrels with the interface machined in later.

The three-lug-style adaptor mounts to a threaded barrel to allow for quick attachment of the suppressor.

Performance and Use Case

SilencerCo says the S98 delivers very strong sound performance for its size. Additionally, the company claims minimal first-round pop and consistent suppression. Published data lists an average muzzle reading of 130.3 dB.

The eccentric layout benefits competition shooters, night vision users, and anyone who wants a clean sight picture. It also keeps the suppressor from feeling top-heavy or out of place on the pistol.

Availability and Pricing

SilencerCo plans limited monthly drops through its website rather than a single large release. The MSRP is $1,269. Each unit ships with the 1/2×28 QD mount, with AC22 compatibility excluded.

The S98 fills a narrow but intentional niche. It targets shooters who want a dedicated 9mm handgun suppressor with fast mounting, low weight, and no visual clutter. Also, this is the one suppressor I have been most excited about since it was first teased. I can’t wait to run one myself.
