Last week, Senate Democrats reintroduced one of the most sweeping federal gun control proposals in years.
U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim brought back the Federal Firearm Licensing Act, a bill that would require Americans to obtain a federal firearm license before purchasing, receiving, or even possessing a firearm.

Supporters are calling it “commonsense.” Gun owners will recognize it for what it is: a national permission slip system enforced by the Department of Justice.
According to the bill text, it would be unlawful for any individual to purchase, receive, or possess a firearm without a valid federal firearm purchasing license issued by the Attorney General.
That license would not be a one-time deal. It would require:
- Mandatory firearms training, including a written test and live-fire testing
- Fingerprints, proof of identity, and a full background investigation
- Disclosure of the specific firearm being purchased, including make, model, and serial number
- Approval or denial within 30 days
- License expiration after five years
- A license valid for one firearm only
In other words, every gun would require its own federal license, issued before the transfer can occur.
The bill goes even further. It allows the Attorney General to deny or revoke a license if the applicant is deemed a “significant danger” to themselves or others, based on a long list of subjective criteria. Those include prior arrests without conviction, alleged drug or alcohol abuse, past restraining orders, or even recent firearm purchases.
Once revoked, the government must ensure firearms are removed from the individual. And they can only be returned if the license is reinstated.
The legislation also mandates ongoing FBI “Rap Back” monitoring, meaning license holders would be continuously checked for new records or contacts. Private firearm transfers would have to go through a federally licensed dealer, and all sales would need to be reported to the Attorney General within three business days.

Booker compared firearm ownership to driving a car, arguing that licensing saves lives. The bill is endorsed by Giffords and the Community Justice Action Fund. It is co-sponsored by several high-profile Senate Democrats.
What supporters don’t mention is how this framework collides head-on with the Supreme Court’s Bruen standard, which rejects discretionary licensing schemes and demands historical analogues for modern gun regulations.
There is no Founding-era tradition of requiring Americans to seek federal permission, let alone repeated permission, to exercise a constitutional right.
Whether the bill advances or stalls, its introduction matters. It signals where gun control efforts are heading next. Not just regulating sales, but conditioning possession itself on federal approval.
This is one to watch closely.

Inherent rights are fundamental, universal human rights that a person possesses simply by virtue of existing as a human being. They are considered intrinsic to human nature and dignity, existing independently of government laws or social customs.
The one and only good and positive thing I see from it if passed and made law is, everyone will be able to buy anything, other than full autos, from anyone anywhere in the U.S. and take them home the same day making waiting periods and permission slips, like the FOID card, pointless, useless and unnecessary.
Everyone would be able to go to a gun show or a gun shop in another state than where they live, or purchase online and take home their purchase the same day or have it shipped right to their front door! You do know I’m not on the left right? And I merely shared my thoughts on one aspect of this asinine attempt at further infringement on our 2A Right from the left. I mean, irregardless of having to get the permission slip, then wait up to 30 days for reapproval, anyone would still be able to purchase from anyone and take it home the same day. That in and of itself would make or cause someone on the left to not want to vote for it. You know, because they have that low of an IQ and a severe lack of understanding.

I think that there are two things citizens that believe in the traditional and literal interpretation of the Constitution and Bill of Rights should do and promote. I am talking about the Citizens who don’t believe in the Progressive and evolving meaning of our laws that change according to the direction the political wind blows according to the political party that has the most power.
1)”We the Citizens” must have political office term limits for Congress and the Senate. We should not allow politicians that have never held an ordinary job or owned a business to spend years governing and spending money the government just doesn’t have. Years spent in “Pork Barrel” politics, years accumulating power just because of the length of their tenure( think- Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell, Biden-horrible politicians Dem and Pub alike-who are only there for the money and power. Term limits has the ability to give more of the governing power back to where it belongs-with the people.
2)We need to get the Convention of States movement passed in order to limit federal government powers that have ballooned and are now commonly used against “We the People”. I urge you to look up “Convention of States” if you are unfamiliar with that movement.

I would invite you to do some homework and read the Bill of Rights, the full text of the Constitution and the Federalist Papers. All are available pretty much anywhere you look; internet, book store, library, etc. I’ll cut to the chase, if you can read, use that ability to learn. In reality, it’s so simple a democrat could figure it out. Unfortunately, democrats are all about control.
