BELLEVUE, WA – A Wednesday report in the Seattle Times offers more proof that restrictions placed on law-abiding Washington State gun owners, plus a tax on gun and ammunition sales in Seattle, have dramatically failed to reduce violent crime as promised, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said.

In 2014, the Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility, a gun prohibition lobbying group largely funded by wealthy Seattle-area elitists pushed through Initiative 594, a so-called “universal background check” measure that was supposed to keep guns out of the wrong hands. In 2015, the Seattle City Council pushed through the gun tax that has never come close to its revenue forecast. In 2018, the gun ban lobby rammed through Initiative 1639, which prohibits young adults from purchasing any kind of semiautomatic rifle and requires an “enhanced” background check and 10-day waiting period, plus proof of training.

“All of these restrictive gun control measures have only penalized law-abiding citizens,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “All three have failed miserably, and the time has come for the gun ban lobby to admit it and allow each of these bogus crime fighting tools to be repealed. Indeed, gun prohibitionists should fold their tents and go home in shame, because their anti-violence ‘remedies’ have proven to be nothing more than snake oil.”

This week, Seattle reportedly matched its 2019 homicide total. With four months remaining in the year, the body count for the city, and likely the rest of the state, will only go up. Law-abiding gun owners are not the problem, and restrictive gun control laws are not the solution, CCRKBA said.

“The gun prohibition lobby should apologize to Washington gun owners,” Gottlieb said. “Not only has the Alliance for Gun Responsibility pushed to disarm honest citizens, it also sides with violent protesters who want to defund police, and whose occupation of a Seattle neighborhood earlier this summer resulted in four non-fatal shootings and two homicides where the victims were both Black teens.

“When all of these laws were proposed,” he recalled, “we predicted they wouldn’t work, an we’ve been proven right. Homicides have crept upwards over all of Washington state during the past few years. The billionaire-backed crusade against gun owners and their rights has been an unmitigated disaster. They’ve given people a false sense of security while trampling on their rights. How many more must die before the anti-gun right extremists admit they’ve been wrong?”

The gun laws have accomplished their mission disarming honest citizens so they will be at the mercy of the criminals, the only effective gun laws are ones that enhance sentences for committing violent felonies with a gun. All other gun laws should be abolished if they interfere with the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.

The stupidity of liberals is overwhelming. Yet that buffoon Inslee ( Governor ) and Durkan ( mayor of Seattle ) will lie thru their teeth and say what a great job that vile, and useless legislation is doing. They are both useless and need to be removed from office. I have to admit thought that it’s nice to see all this damage death and destruction in Seattle. The idiots voted for these fools and are now suffering because of that stupidity.

I feel sorry for Conservative Washingtonians, the Leftness of Seattle is running, and ruining, a nice State

As usual, a completely biased and selective presenting of the ‘facts’. No recent local gun control law is going to have noticeable significant immediate measurable results. Stupid article that panders to already firmly held beliefs. Meaningful gun violence reductions will only come from long and more widespread efforts. Seattle and Washington State took what steps they could given the obvious political resistance to any attempts at reducing gun violence. I own lots of them but holy cow I don’t want to live in the wild west and I don’t see the need to own military-style weapons like ARs, etc.

Stunning that Seattle Times would allow such a story in their rag. Still, to any gun owner that has done a little digging, we all knew this was going to be a failure. The premise that criminals “buy” their guns at stores is idiotic. A study showed they get them through burglaries and via other criminals. The FBI, in the Uniform Crime Report of 2018, said that in areas where the majority of the citizenry was armed, there was less crime. But the Democrats to not operate on facts, just emotions and feelings. For them, if someone is breaking into your home, you just need to start singing Kumbaya to make them stop.

Be careful what power and penalties you wish the state to wield. As when the state fails to represent its people, disenfranchises large parts of the population, and seeks to criminalize those whom with it disagrees, it will certainly wield those powers against any and all who dissent in an attempt to control and subdue.

Dont you worry, we are all going to be violent “criminals” before too long. We’re going to have to be or loose it all.

Bill, well said, sadly true. Their thinking is to take what we’ve work for all these years. It’s their way or their way.

      We’ll see…..

Brandish a gun which doing a crime: loss of both index fingers and 18 months in prison.
Fire the gun during a crime: as above and also lose the middle fingers and spend 3 years in jail.
Injure someone using a gun during a crime: lose the hand and five years in prison.
Kill someone using a gun during a crime: automatic removals as above and life in prison.

Give the law some teeth. Felon with a gun gets a hand cut off. Use a gun to commit a felony gets a head cut off.

  • mIke August 20, 2020, 7:09 pm

Nope they will insist that they need more gun control laws….because they can and do
