Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. has officially brought back a classic name with a modern twist. The Glenfield™ Firearms brand, acquired alongside Marlin back in 2020, returns to the hunting world with the debut of the Glenfield Model A, a new American-made bolt-action rifle designed to make hunting more accessible than ever.

A Legacy Reimagined
The Glenfield Model A takes its cues from one of Ruger’s most successful platforms: the original Ruger American Rifle Gen I. That rifle earned a loyal following over nearly 14 years and almost two million units sold.
The new Model A keeps the same down-to-earth design and workhorse reliability but brings it back at an even better value, with an MSRP that’s $100 less than comparable Gen I models.
Built for Hunters of Every Level
This rifle was built for simplicity—no gimmicks, no unnecessary extras. The Model A features a textured Moss Green Splatter stock and a matte black finish on the receiver, threaded barrel, and bolt handle.

The adjustable trigger can be tuned between 3 and 5 pounds, while the three-lug bolt with a 70° throw offers smooth cycling and plenty of scope clearance.
At launch, the Model A will be offered in three classic hunting calibers: .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, and .270 Winchester—each more than capable of handling North American game from whitetail to elk.
Ruger’s Take
“We’re excited to bring back the iconic Glenfield Firearms brand with a new product that reflects Ruger’s dedication to manufacturing affordable, American-made firearms for any and every hunter,” said Ruger President and CEO Todd Seyfert.
“The Model A is a practical, reliable rifle built for hunters of all experience levels and we’re proud to bring it to market under the Glenfield name.”
Affordable, Reliable, Ready for the Field
The new Glenfield Model A keeps things simple and dependable—just what hunters expect from Ruger. It’s a no-frills rifle that’s ready to go right out of the box, built to deliver consistent performance season after season. MSRP: $499.

Just was wondering if they where planning on bring back the Marlin 39a .22 caliber lever action rifle?
I’m not sure I’d base it on a Ruger American which made it’s bones on being accurate at a low price but having a crap stock, a crap trigger, a crap magazine and a crap action. The Ruger American 2 improved the stock but nothing else. How about bring the Glenfield in with a bang and build a truly good rifle from the start. This one may be that but it’s concerning that they say it’s based off the Ruger American 1.
Good to see an old American classic making a come back. My grandfather gave me a Glendfield model 60 .22 right after they came out in the mid-60’s and I still have that old rifle, and even after digesting tens of thousands of rounds it’s still shoots great! Maybe they’ll reintroduce the classic model 60 at an affordable price like it once was.
If they aren’t going to provide iron sights they should provide a Monte Carlo stock. I guess the first accessory after optics will be a cheek riser.
Should use the American stock. It has two short butt stocks and two long butt stocks. Two low rise combs and two tall combs.
Ah, so, thank you! So any Boyds stock for the Ruger American would also fit? Kinda defeats the purpose of a bargain rifle. I’ve been certainly been guilty of throwing money at inexpensive firearms.
