Palmetto State Armory used SHOT Show 2026 to release the AXR PDW, a compact 9mm platform within its broader AXR series. The design centers on PSA’s MFC (modular fire control), the serialized core of the firearm, which moves between different configurations.
That approach allows the same MFC to transition from a handgun to a PDW setup without buying a second serialized component.

AXR Series and the Shared MFC
The AXR PDW uses the same MFC found in the AXR handgun lineup. PSA positions the MFC as the foundation of the system. Users can transfer it between a full-size pistol, a compact pistol, and the PDW configuration. PSA emphasized modularity as the guiding principle behind the AXR project.
The AXR PDW currently supports 9mm only. PSA confirmed that no additional calibers are available for the handgun or PDW side of the AXR series at this time, but they may add other options in the future.

Dedicated PDW Configuration
The AXR PDW uses a dedicated PDW grip module designed specifically for this role. The grip module integrates an extra magazine holder at the front. That setup allows the platform to carry two magazines on the gun. PSA includes magazines fitted with 17+5 round extensions.
A manual safety comes standard on the PDW configuration. PSA also integrated a quick-deploy PDW brace. The brace deploys with the push of a button and extends straight out of the rear of the firearm. PSA described the system as ready for rapid deployment without additional adjustments.
Modularity and Accessory Support
PSA built the AXR PDW to accept multiple front and rear accessories. The platform supports different handguard styles and multiple mounting options. M-LOK surfaces allow users to attach accessories as needed. PSA also designed the system to work with different optic mounting solutions.

That modular layout mirrors the intent of the AXR series as a whole. PSA described the PDW as part of a larger ecosystem rather than a standalone product.
Production Timeline and Availability
PSA stated they have already dedicated tooling for the AXR PDW, but noted that injection molding would drive the production schedule. PSA estimated an eight- to twelve-month window for that process. The current target aims for a Q4 release if production stays on schedule.
PSA did not announce pricing at SHOT Show 2026. The company reiterated that the AXR PDW remains compatible across the AXR series and will likely roll out alongside other offerings in the lineup.
