While cruising the 2023 NRA show floor, we came across Trophy Ear Custom Hearing Protection. Owner Chris Warren has a proprietary formula that allows him to adhere custom silicone ear molds to electronic hearing protection devices. His ear pro enhances and protects your hearing at the same time.
The Flexx Pro is Trophy Ear’s premium active hearing protection featuring instant noise compression, volume control, 4 different tone settings, and a waterproof coating. The electronic components are the same ones used by premier hearing aid companies. If you have a hearing test performed by your audiologist, you can send it to Trophy Ear and they’ll upload a custom profile to your device.
Instant noise compression allows you to easily communicate with others and remain aware of your surroundings until a loud noise occurs. Once a loud noise is detected, the Flexx Pro instantaneously reduces the noise to a hearing-safe level of 85db without turning off. It’s easy to maintain a conversation on a live range. Other companies cut the noise completely which produces uneven sounds coming through the headset.
The flexible silicone ear molds paired with the active hearing device allow Trophy Ear to achieve an industry-leading 29db Noise Reduction Rating (NRR). This is the same rating as most soft foam-style earplugs. Other manufacturers use acrylic shells that have an average of 25db NRR.
It doesn’t seem like much, but a 4db difference means that Trophy Ear’s will sound 1.5 times quieter than other brands. The silicone creates a perfect seal during all conditions, unlike their competitors. If you’re operating in an extremely loud environment, you can double up on ear pro and wear muffs on top of the Flexx Pro’s without interference thanks to the anti-feedback control.

Those are just as expensive as fancy hearing aids. I’ll just keep using my yellow foam earplugs for 29 dba of protection under my ear muff hearing protection. Just like I did in the air force. I know that works.
That is not even close to the price of my hearing aids. Just happy my insurance took care of most of the cost. Now if only I had done MY part to protect MY hearing… I would still be interested in checking these out since I have to wear hearing protection at work. This would be more comfortable, more sanitary than disposable ear plugs, and not have to take them out/out them in all during the day.
