Another courtroom battle over the SIG SAUER P320 is officially over, and it’s another win for the gunmaker.
A federal judge in North Carolina dismissed a lawsuit claiming the P320 discharged without the trigger being pulled, siding squarely with SIG.
This case, filed by a plaintiff named Williams, dragged on for more than five years. But when it came down to the facts, the court found the plaintiff’s case had nothing to stand on.
The judge ruled that Williams’ liability experts weren’t qualified to testify on the pistol’s design, and the opinions they did provide were unreliable. Without credible expert testimony, the lawsuit collapsed.
SIG’s outside counsel, Kristen Dennison of Littleton Joyce Ughetta & Kelly LLP, hat this to say after the ruling:
“We are both pleased and unsurprised that accusations concerning the P320 firing without a trigger pull have once again proven to be unfounded in the court of law.”
That “once again” is key. Nearly twenty separate P320-related cases have now been dismissed.
Each time, courts have leaned on the evidence presented showing that the P320 doesn’t just fire on its own. In every round of litigation, claims of spontaneous discharges fail to hold up under scrutiny.

Sig P320 and Remington 700 two guns two many accident claims. whats going on here??? Dont have the same claims with Winchester model 70 or Colt government model 1911. 320 and 700 Bow Wow.
Where’s the beef? Supposed qualifications of the plaintiff experts, conditions of the discharges (dropped on a hard floor or finger placement/operator error), safety features in question (no drop safety).
I own a Wilson wp320 with the trigger upgrade and have fired at least 8,000 rounds through it, 100 rounds a week, with no such malfunctions. It rarely requires cleaning!
